Carnival Triumph Having More Problems

Power was knocked out for the Carnival Cruise Line’s Triumph due to an engine fire on February tenth.  Thousands of passengers were stranded without power to restaurants and bathrooms.  It was towed to Mobile, Alabama on Valentine’s Day for repairs.  BAE Ship Systems was working on the ship’s problems.

It broke loose from its moorings today, and is in the process of being towed back to the dock.  A hole is being reported on its right side.  There also appears to be a missing shipyard worker.

Petty Ofc. Second Class Bill Colclough says a crew is searching the Mobile River for the man. He went missing after the ship drifted from its mooring Wednesday afternoon. Colclough was unsure of where the worker was when the ship became dislodged.

The Coast Guard says high winds are to blame for the ship breaking away from its moorings.  Winds reached speeds of 35-65 mph.
