On April 28, 2013, at approximately 7:30 AM, Dallas officers responded to a Dallas Fire Station located in the 700 block of W. Illinois regarding children being abandon at the location. The officers discovered that a witness dropped off eight children ranging from 2 to 12 years of age after she discovered they were left alone by the mother. The children were taken to Child Protective Services (CPS) by the officers. The mother arrived at CPS while the officers were still at the location.
Further investigation revealed that the mother and her children, ages 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12, had been given shelter at a church in the 2400 block of Marsalis Avenue. The family had been residing at this location for some time. On April 28, 2013, at approximately 12:30 AM, the witness observed the mother leave the church, leaving her children behind. The witness waited to see if the mother would return and after several hours went by, the witness took the children to the fire station. The Child Abuse Unit has opened an investigation to look into any Child Abandonment charges. As of this writing, no charges has been filed and the children still remain in the custody of Child Protective Services. I will update you once more information becomes available.
