Kidnapped Florida Boys Found in Cuba
Several days ago I reported a story about two boys, ages 4 and 2 who were kidnapped by their father Joshua Hakken from their maternal grandmother’s house early last Wednesday morning. Hakken’s abandoned pick-up was discovered near Madeira Beach.
Hakken had purchased a 25 foot sailboat, and Hakken, along with his wife, Sharyn, and sons Chase and Cole, were believed to have last been seen sailing for open water on Thursday.
Today they are reported to be in Havana, Cuba, according to CNN sources.
The United States does not have an extradition treaty with Cuba, and the State Department is uncertain if any action can be taken to retrieve the boys.
Over a year ago Chase and Cole were removed from parental custody after Hakken was arrested on drug charges. The boys were put in foster care. Hakken attempted to take them at gunpoint.
The boys were subsequently placed in the care of their maternal grandparents, who had obtained legal custody just last Tuesday.
The Hillsborough Sheriff’s office issued an arrest warrant for Joshua Hakken on charges of kidnapping and several other counts.
There are no charges at this time filed against Sharyn. Her role in the event is yet to be determined.
