Justin Bieber under Attack for Comments about Anne Frank
Justin Bieber is making headlines again for comments he scrawled in the guest book at The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. Bieber’s remarks have angered many across the world, inciting people to take to Twitter and Facebook to reprimand the young crooner.
The 19-year-old wrote, “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber,” the affectionate term used by fans.
Although throngs of people feel it was offensive for Bieber to opine Frank may have enjoyed some pop-culture given the chance, representatives at The Anne Frank House have defended the musician. They wrote on their Facebook page, “The Anne Frank House was pleased to welcome Justin Bieber to the Anne Frank House last Friday. We think it is very positive that he took the time and effort to visit our museum. He was very interested in the story of Anne Frank and stayed for over an hour. We hope that his visit will inspire his fans to learn more about her life and hopefully read the diary.” (usatoday.com)
The backlash has been overwhelming; people from all over the world are weighing in via social media.
“She would’ve been a WHAT? That little idiot is way too full of himself,” wrote Kevin Garcia Leon in the site’s most popular comment on Facebook. (usatoday.com)
Another Facebook visitor wrote, “Pity the guy, after making the effort to visit, wasn’t grown up enough to have a break from being so self centered and make a comment like that.” (usatoday.com)
Bieber and his representatives are not commenting so far.
However, consider for a moment every statement you made when you were 19-years-old; imagine being held to a standard so high where everything you said was being inspected under a microscope. Imagine still, if whatever you said and did was recorded, taped, photographed and sent out all over the world and then preserved in perpetuity for the entire world to comment on all without your approval; and all of this without benefit of years of wisdom behind you.
Give the kid a break, and think about this, glass houses people. Glass houses.
