Lady Cardinals vs. Lady Huskies
The Lady’s NCAA Championship in New Orleans is taking place tonight, Tuesday. It’s halftime, and unless Louisville “shoots the lights out” in the second half, Connecticut will tie Tennessee with 8 National Championships.
The Lady Cardinals came out shooting well, but after the first five minutes the Huskies defense took over. And 6 foot 4 inch freshman Breanna Stewart began to dominate the entire court. With the wingspan of a seven footer she was unstoppable inside with put backs and layups. She also hit a three pointer.
Halftime found Connecticut leading 48-29. Stewart was 7 for 11 shooting for 18 points, and had 7 rebounds. Remember, I said she was a “freshman”.
With 6 ½ minutes left in the game, several starters on the bench, the Huskies had stretched their lead to 34 points. It would have been merciful to call it ‘over’.
Louisville had a great run, but were severely outmatched by Connecticut. Geno Auriemma will tie legendary Pat Summitt as the coaches with the most wins in NCAA Women’s Basketball.
The Lady Huskies are the youngest team in Women’s NCAA. There will already be much discussion about a repeat in 2014.
The final score, Connecticut 93, Louisville 60. This is the largest margin of victory in the history of the Women’s NCAA Championship game.
