Okay Gun Nuts, at Least Lock up Your Weapons and Show Some Intelligence
Another child has died by gunshot wound. The NRA is right, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, but when they are children, something is obviously drastically wrong with the mentality of our gun crazy country. With the gun lobby touting the safety of the second amendment, I’m beginning to think it should be repealed as was the eighteenth, prohibition. It doesn’t work in the 21st century.
Toms River, New Jersey, police Chief Michael Mastronardy said that a 6-year-old boy has died a day after he was shot by a 4-year-old boy. This is the second time in four days that a 4-year-old boy has shot and killed someone. This is probably the 1000th time I’ve repeated myself, but of the more than 30,000 people who are wounded or killed in the United States by guns each year, the vast majority are women and children.
Brandon Holt was pronounced dead at 5 p.m. today.
Brandon was playing in the yard of the 4-year-olds’ home. The younger boy went inside the home, returned with a .22 caliber rifle. His parents, who were in a nearby yard, heard the shot ring out.
“It’s really difficult to deal with,” Daniel Watkins, uncle of the 6-year-old boy, told CNN affiliate WCBS. He said the two children were friends. “This is something that shouldn’t have happened. It’s horrible.”
No one can argue with that. The travesty, just as in the death of the 4 year old boy’s mother on Saturday in Tennessee, is that no charges have been filed.
A week ago a young girl was shot in a car by a boy who found an unguarded gun inside the Mercedes they were in. No charges have been filed.
The NRA, Republicans, and gun worshipers everywhere have no concern that innocent people die every day from bullets dislodged from a gun. The NRA has brainwashed America. They have convinced weak-minded Americans that they need guns to defend their homes and families. If that’s true, why don’t I hear about daily incidents of that happening instead of innocents losing their lives because of unnecessary gun possession?
The NRA exists because they are supported by a multi-billion dollar industry. And gun nuts exist because the NRA has created a false sense of fear.
When common sense is replaced by emotion, humanity is doomed.
As for today, another child, a 6-year-old boy, will never experience his first high school dance, his first kiss, or passing his driver’s license test. His parents, the parents of the 4-year-old boy, and the boy himself forever had their lives damaged beyond repair.
