Reese Witherspoon Arrested in Atlanta
Atlanta police were giving a field sobriety test to James Toth, who is the husband of actress Reese Witherspoon. She disobeyed instructions to stay in the car they had been riding in. Police therefore arrested her for disorderly conduct.
A trooper reported that the car, driven by Toth on Friday morning, was not staying in it lane. When he stopped the vehicle, Toth’s eyes were “droopy, watery, and bloodshot, and his breath smelled of alcohol”.
Toth said he had “a drink”, which Witherspoon claimed occurred two hours before at a restaurant. Before the trooper administered the sobriety test, Witherspoon left the car and moved towards the officer. She was told to return to the vehicle, but repeated the action, and was warned that she would be arrested if she continued to disobey an officer of the law.
As the test continued, “Ms. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer. I told Ms. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet,” Trooper First Class J. Pyland writes.
Toth was arrested, and Witherspoon exited the vehicle again and asked what was going on. After being told to return to the car, she “stated that she was a ‘US Citizen’ and that she was allowed to ‘stand on American ground,'” the report states.
The trooper began to arrest Ms. Witherspoon, and she resisted at first. She calmed down once her husband suggested she should cooperate.
“Do you know my name?” Witherspoon is quoted as asking the trooper. She’s also said: “You’re about to find out who I am” and “You’re about to be on national news,” according to the report.
Toth and Witherspoon were then taken to jail.
She must think she’s a politician.
