Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green are back on The Voice along with Adam Levine and Blake Shelton for the shows fifth cycle in fall and will pair Levine and Shelton with Shakira and Usher for the sixth cycle in midseason. Carson Daly will return as host for both cycles.
It sounds like everyone is very happy that Christina and CeeLo are back and the network representatives and producers were quick to say so.
Paul Telegdy, President of Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment said, “We locked in a plan several months ago to have the outstanding Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green rejoin Blake and Adam for cycle 5, and we’re pleased to announce that the original four coaches are going to be back together in the fall.”
Telegdy finished by saying that, “They’re the reason this show was launched so strong for the first three cycles and we owe them a debt of gratitude. And after careful consideration of everyone’s schedules for next spring, we are excited to be returning the current cycle of coaches — Shakira and Usher along with Blake and Adam — for cycle 6, which will premiere after the Winter Olympics.”
Executive Producer Mark Burnett said that the coaching panel of Christina, CeeLo, Adam and Blake was at the heart of this show in its first three seasons and we are so lucky to have found equal success with Shakira and Usher in season four.
NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said, “We’re very fortunate to have these six incredible artists to weave in and out of the show as their performing and recording schedules permit.” Greenblatt added that they were also pleased that Carson Daly was back to host the show.
Shelton, Levine, Green and Aguilera were the coaches for the first three seasons of “The Voice,” and helped to establish the musical competition series. Shakira and Usher came in later (as replacements for Aguilera and CeeLo) and helped the show continue to build in terms of viewing figures and popularity.
Shakira and Usher are to re-team with Shelton and Levine in midseason.
Previously there was a lot of speculation as to whether Christina and CeeLo would be returning to the show and today’s announcement has removed any doubt as to who was staying and who was leaving. Although is does appear that both Shakira and Usher are only having a short break from the show.
It looks like both Shakira and Usher are emulating Aguilera and CeeLo by taking some “away” time to get their own personal careers in shape. Both artists are going to be very busy working on individual projects. Shakira will be working on her new album and Usher is set to start production on the film Hands of Stone and he will continue to work on his eighth studio album.
All of the artists are favourites both with the audience and the singing contestants. The coaches are also judges on the panel and it is their input combined with the public’s voting that ensures contestants move on to the next stage in the competition.
“The Voice” is a presentation of Mark Burnett’s One Three Inc., Talpa Media USA Inc. and Warner Horizon Television. The series was created by John de Mol, who executive-produces along with Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Stijn Bakkers and Lee Metzger.
