Deftones pay tribute to Kriss Kross member Chris Kelly (video)
Last week on May 1, the hip hop community lost one of its own as Chris Kelly from the duo Kriss Kross was found unresponsive in his Atlanta home. Since his untimely death Kriss Kross has recieved love and respect from fans and other artists around the industry.
Including rock band The Deftones who during one of their shows in St Louis took a few minutes and covered one of the duo’s biggest hits, ‘Jump.’
Before going on into the cover Deftones lead singer Chino Moreno said this, “we just got word that a member of Kris Kross has passed. I know it’s not good news.”
Also, an autopsy report for Chris Kelly has been released and no signs of foul play were found according to the medical examiner. A toxicology report is expected within the coming weeks to confirm cause of death but a drug overdose is imminent. For it has been reported that Chris Kelly was taking speed balls, a combination of Heroin and cocaine.
Funeral arrangements are in the process and scheduled for Thursday at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in Atlanta and a public viewing the day before.
“Though he was only with us a short time, we feel blessed to have been able to share some incredible moments with him. His legacy will live on through his music, and we will forever love him,” Chris Kelly’s mom and label So So Def said in a statement.
Also, speaking out was Chris Kelly’s bandmate Chris Smith who said: “Chris Kelly was my Best Friend. He was like a brother. I love him and will miss him dearly. Our friendship began as little boys in first grade. We grew up together. It was a blessing to achieve the success, travel the world and entertain Kris Kross fans all around the world with my best friend. It is what we wanted to do and what brought us happiness. I will always cherish the memories of the C-Connection. KRIS KROSS FOREVER, the ‘MAC DADDY’ and ‘DADDY MAC.'”
