Illinois Van Crash Kills Five

A Church Van crashed near Vandalia, Illinois, Monday, killing five people.

Eleven people were riding in a white 2002 Dodge Van when it left interstate 70 and rolled over.  Some of the passengers were ejected from the single vehicle accident.

The passengers, eleven men, were returning from a church gathering in  California to Maryland.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office pronounced five dead at the scene.

The accident happened about 70 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri.

The incident happen just before 10 a.m.  Witnesses said the van left the roadway and flipped several times.  Passengers were being thrown out of the vehicle.

The condition of the surviving six passengers is unkown.  They were sent to two area hospitals.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
