Father and son duo Will and Jaden Christopher Syre Smith were on the Ellen Degeneras Show on the 15th of May and the first thing that came up on the couch was “that” rumour. Jaden said, I’m not going anywhere. Jaden also said that dad Will had told him that he could move out when he’d made a film bigger than any of his.
Will and Jaden has stopped in to see Ellen as part of their world wide press tour for their new film After Earth. It was when the two were in Tokyo, Japan as part of the same press tour that the rumour started. At least according to Will.
He told Ellen that he had made a joke and the reporters there took him seriously. After the father and son tussled on Ellen’s guest couch, Jaden was fighting off dad Will who was trying to give him a loving kiss. Jayden himself decided to set things straight.
When Ellen asked both of them about the emancipation rumour Jayden said, “Here’s the thing you need to explain, I’m not going anywhere.”
He also told Ellen and the audience that he was in no hurry to leave. He then said, “The thing that people don’t get is that everything at his house is free so I can get anything and everything that I want at his house so I think [I’ll be] there for 20, 30 more years.”
However the young star did say that his time at his parent’s house may be limited, “He [Will Smith] says as soon as I have a movie that’s bigger than one of his movies then I have to get my own house.”
About the start of the rumour Will said, “I think I made a joke in Tokyo. My baby boy, he’s never leaving me ever. No emancipation for the Smith kids.”
Jaden has said elsewhere that had not even heard of the rumour that was spreading like wildfire saying, “I didn’t know what was going on ’cause I don’t really go on the Internet except for going on Tumblr. I totally wasn’t aware at all of anything.”
It looks like Will and wife Jada Pinkett Smith have raised Jaden right. When he was asked previously if he was going to follow in his parents footsteps he said, “I just don’t feel the pressure of having to make people happy. That’s really what pressure is. You’re just hoping that people accept you. So, I really don’t care what people think about me.”
Having such a level head probably means that if he did want to move out, whenever that may be, he will do just fine, It doesn’t look like it will be happening anytime soon as he told Ellen that he would probably be living at the Smith mansion for another 20 or 30 years.
Will agreed and touching his son on the leg, grinned and said that none of the Smith kids will be leaving home for a long time. No one, however, said what Jaden’s birthday present was going to be instead of his freedom.
