For anyone watching the very public romance of the two most swooned over tweenie crushes from the Twilight verse, it really comes as no surprise that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are calling it quits…for now.
A source “close” to Pattinson, aged 27, has told US Weekly that he and Stewart, aged 23, have decided that they need to take a break. Other sources have said the the whole, “fighting a lot” and “having problems” thing that the two have been experiencing came to a head on Robert’s 27th birthday on the 13th of May this year.
But at least one source says that the much needed break could result in either a reconciliation or a complete break. The source pointed out that in the week running up to Robert’s birthday bash and the “final” argument that the two were all over each other and being “happily affectionate” at the NYC, where Robert met Kristen after her solo appearance at the Met Gala.
Stewart, who has been acting since she was a child, met the English actor when they were cast as lovers in the tweenie blockbuster Twilight that was based on the first novel in the Stephanie Meyer’s series of bestselling vampire books.
While the films began to build up a massive audience, the two lovebirds became an item and cautiously publicised their “private” romance. As the movie phenomenon exploded over the years, the twosome very, very slowly went public with their romance.
The two young actors now public affair pleased the even younger romantic fans of the Twilight series and this romance drew even more youngsters into the cinemas to watch the “real-life” lovers portray their alter egos who were in love on the big screen.
Then, Snow White and the Huntsman happened. Stewart was caught out while snogging her director Rupert Sanders. Not only was he her director on the film, but he was not Robert Pattinson and he wasn’t even young; he was a mind blowing 42 years old! Mind blowing, that is to your average 12 – 13 year-old Twilight fan, to them at 42 Rupert was probably older than most of the audience’s parents.
Then after the story broke wide open, Stewart made her public confession stopping just short of wearing a burlap sack and smearing herself with ashes. In a prepared speech full of remorse she said, “I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”
While Kristen and Robert tried to get back what they’d both lost, Rupert and his wife split up, with her filing for divorce and presumably custody of their two young children.
By the fall of 2012, the two young actors had reconciled and they both promoted their new Twilight film, Breaking Dawn: Part 2 together. They even, apparently, kept their relationship strong while Pattinson was off filming in Australia earlier this year.
Neither Robert nor Kristen could be reached for comment and no official statements have been released by either actors agencies or representatives.
