Las Vegas: Man arrested in connection with assault of children

On May 25, 2013 at approximately 1:30 a.m., LVMPD officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a missing juvenile. During the course of the investigation, officers went to a residence in the 2200 block of Linn Lane where they made contact with 41 year-old William Smith. Officers did not locate the missing juvenile but found Smith in the company of another juvenile who was not related to him. The investigation also revealed Smith was a registered Tier II sex offender.

LVMPD Sexual Assault Detectives were called to the scene. As a result of this investigation William Smith was arrested and booked for the following charges: Three counts of Lewdness with a Child under 14, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, Burglary, Two counts of Child Abuse with Substantial Bodily or Mental Harm, Five counts of Luring a Child with Mental Illness, and Open and Gross Lewdness.

Smith has lived in Las Vegas since January 2011. Detectives believe he befriended several families to gain access to the victims. A booking photo of Smith accompanies this release.

Detectives of the Missing Persons Detail located the missing juvenile at an unrelated location. This juvenile is also believed to be one of Smith’s victims.

This investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone who has concerns their child may have been a victim of William Smith, or anyone who has any information to call the LVMPD Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
