Five years ago, Travis Alexander, the boyfriend of a young woman by the name of Jodi Arias was found shot, stabbed several times, and was nearly decapitated. Arias, changed her story several times, and eventually claimed self-defense. Because of the severity of the wounds to Alexander’s body, she was charged with murder. The trial has ended, and Jodi Arias now knows the jury’s verdict.
The jury deliberated for over 15 hours in 4 days. The eight men and four women found her guilty of first degree murder.
Arias showed little emotion, although minutes after the verdict, she appeared to be on the verge of tears.
The prosecution had stated all along that she planned to kill Alexander. She stole a .22 caliber revolver from her grandparent’s home. She changed her hair color, hoping no one would recognize her as she made other preparations.
When she killed Alexander, he was in the shower. They had taken “intimate” pictures. She left, and when she returned the prosecution says she shot him, and then stabbed him repeatedly in a jealous rage.
The jury will return tomorrow to begin the penalty phase of the trial.
