Vin Diesel and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson are out promoting their latest film together Fast & Furious 6 that is out this week in American theatres. Both actors were in attendance at the film’s American premiere at Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles making sure that this latest, fastest and most furious of the franchise got the personal touch.
Most of the “regulars” are back for another round of slick cars, fast driving and lots of physical action. Vin Diesel is back as Dominic Toretto. He is kicking back and taking it slow in the shade with an early retirement from the money he made from the previous Fast & Furious film. Dwayne Johnson is also back as Luke Hobbs, who tracks Diesel’s Toretto down in his little retirement crib in the sun.
Of course Hobbs has a love hate thing going on with Toretto, but this isn’t a “bromance.” Hobbs’ job is to pursue this guy, but he admires him and his tight knit little family. And he is there to interrupt Toretto’s early retirement.
Forgetting Vin Diesel for the minute let us just take a moment to ponder on just how busy that Dwayne Johnson must be. It seems like he is in literally every movie playing somewhere at the minute. G I Joe: Retribution and Pain & Gain to name just two. It does make you wonder how he manages to keep that body so pumped up all the time.
I mean seriously, his biceps are huge and in every single scene, Johnson has those things pumped to the max and looking hard as his old WWE handle. The New York Times has speculated that Dwayne has “seemingly been in every movie released in the last two years and has a reality television show, The Hero, coming on TNT.”
But hey, I like Dwayne, and I never tire of seeing him because he almost always delivers, we won’t mention the Tooth Fairy.
Of course Johnson, despite his popularity, is not the big draw here. The big draw is the return of the presumed to be dead in episode 5 of Michelle Rodriguez. Her Letty Ortiz was “killed off” in the last film and now she’s back; still tough as nails but with a little memory problem and she’s working for the nasty competition.
The real drag for her heartbroken honey Torreto is that she doesn’t even remember him, or the rest of the gang.
The opposing gang that Letty (Rodriguez) is working for are pretty heavy duty. They’ve got ramps on the front of their cars that make the opposition’s drive go shooting in the air in any “one-sided” games of chicken and they’ve got a tank that smashes the opposing team’s cars flat as a stomped beer can.
Fans of this long running franchise are excited to see it return and undoubtably the film is going to do extremely well at the box office. They need to as the stunts in this film look like they must have broken the bank.
I mean, seriously? Bringing down a plane with cars?
I haven’t spent a lot of time, well none at all really, talking about Vin Diesel. The reason is simply that he has played this role so many times he could “phone his performance in” in the old Hollywood terminology or even have shown up to sleep walk through his paces.
I’m not saying that this is a bad thing, it’s just that he always delivers, even if he has done it before. A lot.
But enough of this causal looking over the plot; talking about Johnson, Rodriguez and Diesel. Lets head back to the premiere, suffice to say that all the main actors in the film participated in the premiere event and did the posing for pictures thing while screaming and whistling fans watched.
Well, they screamed and whistled when Michelle Rodriguez posed in a tres chic floor-length white number. At one point the strong and sexy gal flexed a muscle and yelled at her adoring fans, “Yo! That’s my crew!”
We’re sure that all of her fans would love to be part of “her crew.”
“Fast & Furious 6,” which has already opened in parts of Europe and Asia, opens in the U.S. on Friday.
