After only three years, Jane Lynch, the Glee star, says that her marriage to Dr Lara Embry is over. At a time when the couple should be celebrating their third anniversary, they are instead calling it quits.
The 52 year-old Lynch met psychologist Embry at a San Francisco fund raiser in 2009 that was being held in honour of Embry. One year later, the two were married in Sunderland, Mass. The state allows gay marriage, and Lynch became a stepmother to Embry’s two daughters, Haden, who lived with the couple, and Chase.
Lynch has said that being a stepmother was a role she cherished. She obviously meant it, for when she was reciting her vows, the New York Times reported that Lynch promised “to be the very best parent I can be,” and “to do my best to get her ‘iCarly’ tickets.”
Speaking of her first meeting with Embry, Lynch told the New York Times that, “I said, ‘I want my picture taken with her,’ I thought she was cute.” But the “cuteness” has apparently worn off and instead of enjoying their anniversary over the Memorial Day weekend, they must have been deciding that the marriage was finished.
Jane Lynch is an American actress, singer, and comedian. She is best known recently for her portrayal of Sue Sylvester in Glee. Her performance in the show has garnered several awards. The list is an impressive one: the Primetime Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, TCA Award for Individual Achievement in Comedy, Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries, or Television Film, and the People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Comedy Actress.
Despite Lynch’s professional success, especially her standing as a star of Glee, it appears that her personal life hasn’t kept up the pace. Jane Lynch told People magazine in a statement that, “Lara and I have decided to end our marriage. This has been a difficult decision for us as we care very deeply about one another. We ask for privacy as we deal with this family matter.”
Lynch is currently starring as Miss Hannigan in Annie: The Musical. She also performed at Sunday’s Tony Awards in New York. Jane Lynch and her wife of nearly three years, Lara Embry, are planning to divorce, People magazine reports.
The Glee actress is openly lesbian. In 2005, she was named one of Power Up’s “10 Amazing Gay Women in Showbiz.”
Apart from the statement to people no further information has been made available to the press. People magazine have tried to contact Lynch’s rep, but they have not had their call returned.
Lara Embry worked at the Carter Psychology Center in Florida. She specialised in therapy for family, children and couples. Before Dr Embry relocated to Florida, she and her former girlfriend lived in Washington state. Both women gave birth to a child and they then mutually adopted each others children as their own.
After moving to Florida, the pair split up and a custody battle ensued. Embry’s former partner tried to stop her from seeing one of their adopted children. Embry took the case to the Florida Court of Appeals and fought to have same-sex couples be awarded with the same rights as any other couple when it comes to adoptive parents.
Jane Lynch and her announcement that the Glee stars marriage is over, has not been followed up with any type of statement from Dr Embry or Lynch’s Rep.
