Jessica Simpson gave birth to a baby boy on Sunday, June 30 in Los Angeles via C-section. The baby’s name is Ace Knute and he’s joined the celebrity crowd of babies with odd names. The little fellow should thank his lucky stars that Mom and Dad didn’t name him Bart or Homer or worse. As it is, Ace Knute is a little eclectic.
Nearly 14 month-old older sister Maxwell officially has a baby brother after Jessica delivered Ace in a scheduled cesarian section.
Simpson’s rep told Us Weekly the good news that Jessica and her fiance Eric Johnson, welcomed their new bundle of joy to the family on Sunday. The 32 year-old Fashion Star mentor’s rep said, “Ace Knute (pronounced Ka-nute) Johnson has arrived! Mom and baby are doing great. Jessica, Eric and Maxwell are thrilled to welcome the new addition to their family.”
It turns out that baby Ace Knute got his middle name after the couple decided to honour Eric’s Swedish paternal grandfather, Knute Johnson. Where “Ace” came from is anybody’s guess, Simpson said way back in February that she was planning to name her baby Ace, she just didn’t explain why.
The 32 year-old singer accidentally blurted out that her baby was going to be a boy back in March when she was on the Jimmy Kimmel show. She was making a joke about her morning sickness when she said, “The crazy thing is I never knew a wiener could make me nauseous.” Once she realised that she’d let the “baby out of the bag” she said, “Well, I guess I just told the world that I’m having a boy!”
After her “secret” got out, she talked to PEOPLE magazine and said that she was looking forward to adding a boy to the family. Around the time of her Tom Sawyer themed baby shower she revealed, “I’m so excited to have a son. I didn’t grow up with a brother and I think the unknown is really exciting. I can’t wait to have that connection with our little man.”
According to Jessica Simpson, baby Ace Knute really took it out of her compared to his big sister Maxwell. Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres in March she said, “this pregnancy is the complete opposite. Like with Maxwell, I felt amazing. Like I could do everything, eat everything. Do whatever I wanted. I had a lot of energy,” she recalled. “This time around . . . I’m like exhausted. Eating Tums. That’s my snack of choice.” And that was before she gave birth to baby Ace Knute!
So if Ace grows up tossing Tums into his mouth like Tic Tacs we’ll know why.
Jessica and her fiance, 33 year-old Eric Johnson, got engaged after they’d dated for about six months. Johnson, a former NFL player and Yale graduate had to postpone saying “I do,” twice after the two got engaged at the end of 2010. Simpson held things up after getting pregnant first with Maxwell and then with Ace.
A source close to the couple said that they’re hoping to tie the knot soon. The source also said that at Simpson’s April 14 baby shower, that Jessica, “was telling friends she wanted to get married a few months after the baby is born” Let’s have this wedding already before I get pregnant with another one!'”
With Jessica Simpson just giving birth to Ace Knute on Sunday June 30, she and Eric had better head down that aisle pretty quickly or they may have to postpone their wedding plans again and both Maxwell and Ace may get another younger sibling.
