Las Vegas: Officer injured by fleeing suspect

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at approximately 2:09 a.m. a uniformed LVMPD patrol officer observed a vehicle without license plates operating in the 1500 block of South Mojave Road.

When the officer attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop the driver refused to comply, and continued to a motel parking lot in the 3300 block of Fremont Street. The driver then stopped the vehicle and fled on foot.

The patrol officer pursued the suspect, later identified as Randell Reed Over street, to the second floor stairs of an adjoining apartment where the suspect turned and pushed the officer over the guardrail onto the ground approximately ten feet below.

After pushing the officer over the guardrail Over street fled into a nearby apartment and refused to exit. A short time later it was discovered Over street had jumped from a second floor window into an adjoining alley where he was taken into custody.

Randall Reed Over street, 55 years of age of Las Vegas, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center charged
with:
Operating an unregistered vehicle, Possession of narcotics, Obstructing a police officer, Failing to stop for a police officer, Attempted murder, and Battery with substantial bodily harm.

A previous booking photo of Over street accompanies this release. The officer who was pushed over the railing was transported to the UMC Trauma Center in stable condition, and has subsequently been released from the hospital. A second officer who also received minor injuries while taking Over street into custody was also treated and
released at the UMC Trauma Center.
