Las Vegas: Two dead in murder suicide attempt

TWO DEAD IN MURDER-SUICIDE ATTEMPTOn June 1, 2013, at approximately 0612 am, LVMPD Patrol Officers responded to the 5500 Block of Cotton Street for reports of shots being fired inside a home. Arriving Patrol Officers quickly located the residence and observed an injured man lying on the ground who was armed with a firearm. Officers entered and took him into custody without incident.

The home was cleared and two other people were found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers also discovered a small child who was critically injured. The child and suspect were rushed to UMC and at the time of this release are expected to
survive.

LVMPD Homicide Detectives responded the scene. Through the investigation detectives determined that Manuel Mata III, 38 years old, had been living with the victims and has a domestic relationship with them. The attack resulted in 2 deaths and serious injuries to a small child. Mata then turned a firearm on himself.

Manuel Mata III has been charged with 2 counts of Murder with Weapon and 1 count of Attempted Murder with Weapon and was booked absentia. The identity of the deceased persons as well as the cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
