On Thursday, two Miss USA contestants showed their support in a photo shoot event to show off the Stanley Cup Finalist of their choice. The two contestants are Miss Illinois USA 2013, Stacie Juris; and Miss Massachusetts USA 2013, Sarah Kidd.
The photo was taken while Stacie and Sarah were at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, by photographer Darren Decker.
Miss Illinois USA and Miss Massachusetts USA will compete along with the other contestants for the title of Miss USA 2013. The winner will also earn the coveted Miss USA Diamond Nexus Crown LIVE on NBC starting at 9:00 PM ET on June 16th, 2013.
On Sunday, December 2, 2012, Illinois history was made when 22 year-old Stacie Juris won the title of Miss Illinois USA 2013 at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago. This was not Stacie’s first time being crowned; In 2009, she won the title of Miss Illinois Teen USA making her the first Teen titleholder to ever go on and become Miss Illinois USA.
Originally from Tinley Park, Stacie is a junior at Columbia College Chicago and now resides in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. As a fashion business major, she hopes to one day open her own dress boutique specializing in prom, pageant, and bridal gowns.
Stacie has two younger sisters: Mallorie, 18 and Jodie, 15, and says being the oldest sibling has taught her to be a positive role model and a leader.
During her reign, Stacie hopes to work closely with charitable organizations benefitting children with life threatening diseases. She says it’s a cause that is very near to her heart because a close friend was diagnosed with the most severe type of lupus, nephritis, at only 16 years old.
Sarah Kidd is currently a college senior pursuing a degree in dental hygiene with hopes of someday furthering her education to possibly become a dentist. She prides herself in being a self proclaimed ÒnerdÓ who started college at just 15 years old. While in school Sarah is currently interning at the Community Health Center providing dental care primarily to those who face obstacles to receiving normal dental services. She finds reward in spending her days restoring people’s confidence to smile again.
Sarah is extremely passionate about her work with Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a non profit organization that raises funds and performs surgeries to repair facial deformities primarily in children born with cleft lip and palates. Children born with cleft lip and palates face tremendous obstacles in life in things such as eating, speaking, and insecurities about their appearance. Sarah has helped to raise money through various events and fundraisers to help pay for some of these surgeries and has high hopes to someday be a part of the actual surgeries herself. Sarah is looking forward to her year ahead filled with charitable activities during her reign as Miss Massachusetts USA 2013.
In her free time, Sarah has many passions. Finding healthy alternatives to otherwise unhealthy food choices is an important hobby of Sarah’s. She loves to bake and cook, but most importantly enjoys tasting her creations and trying new foods. Sarah also enjoys watching movies, reading fictional novels, vinyasa yoga, and playing with makeup. Sarah has had a successful modeling career and has appeared in publications for Macy’s, PUMA, and other well known companies. She has graced the runways from New York to Boston and was named the face of E.L.F Cosmetics in 2011.
Sarah attributes her motivation and hard work to the example lead by her parents. Her father, David Kidd, is a successful business man and her mother is a dedicated artist. Her parents have instilled in her from a young age that anything is possible if you work hard and believe in yourself. Sarah looks up to her parents and hopes to continue to make them proud in the year ahead. She is excited to share this experience of a lifetime with all of her family, friends, sponsors, and supporters throughout her journey as Miss Massachusetts USA.
Anticipation is running high in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Miss USA 2013 pageant is almost here! It will be shown LIVE on NBC starting at 9:00 PM ET on June 16th, 2013.
