South Africa, Nelson Mandela is on the road to recovery as it is established that he is able to breathe on his own, after being admitted to a Pretoria hospital for a recurrent respiratory infection, early on today.
The presidential representative Mac Maharaj told reports that Madiba (the clan name used for Mandela) is stable and a survivor. He referred to Mandela as a fighter who will be fine. He mentioned that Mandela is in good spirits although the situation was serious this time.
Mandela’s family members are at the hospital in Pretoria and his wife Graca Machel, cancelled a schedule appearance at the a hunger summit in London today and presumed to have flown back to South Africa to be at her husband’s side.
For the South African government to mention the word ‘serious’ is a great concern for all the people of South Africa. Mandela remains an icon and the beloved leader who transformed this rainbow nation into a democratic country.
Mandela who will celebrate his 95th birthday next month, is receiving excellent medical care and doctors are doing all they can to make him better and comfortable.
President Zuma wished Mandela a speedy recovery on behalf of the government and called for his privacy to respected, no doubt referring to the media stationed outside of the hospital.
Get-well messages from all-around the world have been flooding in, and the tweets trending on Twitter for Mandela’s recovery show the volume of support for this Iconic man.
