No major music festivals in your area this summer? Not a fan of standing outside for hours braving sunburn, summer thunderstorms, sitting through a ton of acts you don’t like and fighting to keep your front row spot? No money to pay $1,000 for VIP tickets for the privilege of using the festivals’ restrooms? Not to worry the O Music Awards is an online music festival/awards show showcasing the best of, where else? The internet! The festival begins on June, 19th at 7PM EST and runs for 24 hours straight and will be streamed online.
USA Today reports that over 50 artists are scheduled to perform, including Hanson, Lord Huron, Atlas Genius, Kate Nash, Gavin DeGraw and Boxer Rebellion. If you won’t be home in front of your computer during the festival, don’t fret– according to O Music Awards’ website, you can stream the show from your tablet or smartphone. Not only that, but you can customize the stream –so you can alerted when your favorite artists are performing! During the festival, performances will be streamed from locations all over the country – including Los Angeles, New York and Nashville.
Every awards show has a big award, and the O Music Awards are no exception. The one to win this year is the new Make a Band Famous Award. Fans were able to vote for the semi-finalists online, and they selected Chill Moody, Darling Parade, So So Glos, Striking Matches and Syd Arthur as the bands most deserving to be famous. In addition to spotlights on major music channels, USA Today reports that the winning band will perform at MTV’s Video Music Awards. The winner of the Make a Band Famous Award will be chosen by online votes during the festival.
Voting for the winners started on May 16th, but there is still time to vote for your favorite artists at www.Omusicawards.com. Not only can you vote for your favorite artists, you can also create a “superfan” page both to get more votes for your picks and to increase your daily vote limit. Once you reach Level 5, you can vote 1,000 times per day for your favorite artist! The limit for level one voters is 50 votes per day. The categories seem to judge both an artist’s popularity online as well as an artist’s online interactions with fans.
According to the O Music Award’s website, the categories include Best Interactive Music Video, Best Music App, Most Inspiring Fan Outreach and the Must-Follow Artist on Twitter award. The award not to win is the Friday-Friday award – this award doesn’t go to any particular artists, but rather to the most hated internet trend. This year’s nominees for the Friday-Friday award are Flash Mobs, Goats Yelling Like Humans, the Harlem Shake, Lip Dubs, and Twerking – perhaps there is hope for a five-way tie? If you aren’t sure what any of these trends are, you can click on the more info link under the Vote button for the category – but beware! The links lead to videos of each trend. Prepare to be annoyed.
So, get your computer, laptop, smartphone or table ready – the O Music Festival promises to be one of the best festivals of the summer! Oh! I almost forgot the best part – it’s free!
