Ozzy Osbourne fell “off the wagon” and his wife Sharon was shocked and surprised by his confession of recent drug use. The X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne spoke out about her troubled relationship with husband Ozzy. She admitted that she has to accept that she “will never be able to change him”.
60 year-old Sharon spoke to the American TV show Extra about her new lease of life after shedding 23 pounds thanks to her new Atkins diet technique and she started talking about her 30 year marriage to Ozzy.
The X Factor judge came clean about not knowing that Ozzy was back on drugs until the 64 year-old rocker had released a statement to the media stating that he had fallen off the wagon again.
John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne is a Grammy Award winning English heavy metal vocalist and songwriter. Ozzy rose to prominence as the lead singer of the English band Black Sabbath, who specialised in a dark and hard sound that helped to spawn the heavy metal genre. Due to his distinctive voice and Sabbath’s style, Osbourne became known as the “Prince of Darkness”. Osbourne is also known as the “Godfather of Heavy Metal”.
In 2002 Osbourne became a star in his own reality show, The Osbournes. The show followed the everyday life of Ozzy, his wife/manager Sharon and two of their three children, Kelly and Jack. A documentary about his life and career, God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, premiered in April 2011 at the Tribeca Film Festival and was released on DVD in November 2011.
Ozzy, has battled drink and drug addiction for many years and he and Sharon, 60, were rumoured to have gone through a rocky patch when he relapsed.
Ozzy admitted in back in April on his facebook page that, “For the last year and a half I have been drinking and taking drugs. I was in a very dark place and was an a****** to the people I love most, my family. However, I am happy to say that I am now 44 days sober.”
Sharon told the American TV Extra audience that, “I never knew he was using prescription drugs. Sharon added, “I knew he was drinking occasionally, but didn’t realise the extent. We’re dealing with it. We’re not getting divorced. However, I am devastated right now.”
Part of the reason that Sharon didn’t know about husband Ozzy’s fall off the wagon was because the couple spent weeks living apart as she focussed on her TV work and Ozzy prepared for the Black Sabbath reunion tour. But Sharon said that now she knows and that he has now been sober for 90 days.
It was easy for Ozzy Osbourne to keep his prescription drug use a secret. Distance does make keeping secrets easier and although his wife Sharon was shocked by his recent drug use, she also knows that Ozzy has been battling his addiction for years. She chose to stand by him and accept him for who he is.
Sharon also admitted that she would never try to change her husband. She said, “It’s acceptance of who that person is. If you think you’re ever going to change anyone, you’re not going to do it. You love them for who they are.’’
The newly re-hired X factor judge and talkshow host said that she was “devastated” when the 64 year-old Black Sabbath rocker relapsed and started to drink and take drugs earlier in the year. At the time she spoke of her family’s suffering after Ozzy hit the bottle again. she said, “It’s a disease that not only hurts the person who has the disease, but it hurts the family. It hurts people who love you.”
Talking to the Extra show host Mario Lopez she said, “It’s acceptance of who that person is. If you think you’re ever going to change anyone, you’re not going to do it. You love them for who they are.”
Sharon has recently made it known publicly that she had a double mastectomy after learning she had a high chance of contracting breast cancer, like Angelina Jolie. But she wanted to talk about her new weight loss program. The mother of three told how she had lost 23 pounds because of the Atkins diet and that she felt healthy for the first time “in a long time”.
She said: “It’s the first summer in a long time that I’m healthy. Ozzy and I were at the beach this weekend, jogging up and down the beach. That would never happen to me, not until I found Atkins. It’s about old ideas, old perceptions. This diet is fish, chicken, meat, vegetables, certain fruits you can have. It’s changed my life for the better!”
Discussing her long marriage, she told Extra: “It’s acceptance of who that person is. If you think you’re ever going to change anyone, you’re not going to do it. So you accept them for who they are and you love them for who they are.”
It is just as well that Sharon accepts her husband Ozzy Osbourne for who he is. Despite the fact that she was shocked at his recent drug use, she knows that her 64 year-old husband will continue to battle his addiction, because he cares about his family. And so does Sharon.
