A deck crowded with Miami Heat Fans, collapsed as fans watched the game, sending scores of them into the water.

The accident happened about 9:45 p.m. at Shuckers in North Bay Village.

One person was hospitalized and in critical condition while four others are listed in serious condition.

Eye witness reports state that bartenders dove into the water to help rescue patrons.

Firefighters drove their trucks to the water’s edge and extended their ladders so that customers could climb to safety.

Chris Votz, 39, said he was about 10 feet from the deck when it collapsed. “It sounded like a freight train, then everyone was gone,” he said.

When was the deck last inspected by city building code inspectors. If it was rated for that many people, the venue may not be at fault if code requirements were in place. Wishing all involved a speedy recovery: what a frightening experience.
