Just a few minutes ago Gavin Newson announced via his Facebook that the Ninth Circuit of Appeals have lifted the stay on prop 8. Giving same-sex couples the right to resume receiving marriage licenses immediately. For the LGBT community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) this could not of come at a better time. As the city of San Francisco will be celebrating its annual Pride this coming weekend.
California’s Attorney General Kamala Harris also announced via social media. Only Ms. Harris announced the big news via her twitter as she headed for San Francisco’s City Hall to begin marrying couples. Attorney General Kamala Harris began by marrying the plaintiff’s in the prop 8 case, Kristin Perry and Sandra Stier.
This all occurring as the ninth circuit court lifted its stay on same-sex marriages in the state of California. After the Supreme Court found DOMA unconstitutional in a 5-4 vote.
As the news was announced Attorney General Kamala Harris immediately called the Los Angeles clerk from The San Francisco county clerk office, telling them to begin issuing same-sex marriage licenses immediately.
