Scandal? What Scandal?

The Internal Revenue Service, in Washington, DC.Republicans have desperately been searching for anything during the past  four-and-a-half years to discredit President Obama.  The party of racism and bigotry continues to lack acceptance that we have an African-American President.  Benghazi, AP, and the IRS have been the recent efforts by the ‘party of no’ to bring down the Obama administration.  Now the truth is out, and I say ‘scandal, what scandal?’

I am not a huge fan of the President.  I supported him in two elections based on his sub-standard opponents, more than his virtues.  I knew that his campaign promises were simply that, vacuous statements that would never evolve into reality.

Mr. Obama has his faults.  The NSA scandal is a true scandal, and offends me and most clear thinking Americans.  He has faced criticism for several things which have occurred during his administration, and much of it was unfair, and excelled a maximum close scrutiny which should have been attributed to that of his predecessor who was a war criminal etc., etc., etc.

Polls showed the American public considered the IRS to be the most important of the lot.  Now, evidence proves that efforts by Republican Congressman Darrell Issa and others to place it in a Nixonesque level of scandal are superfluous.

Both liberals and TEA Party members were targeted, and none of the efforts by the IRS were prejudicial.

The Cincinnati office of the IRS where the so called ‘excessive scrutiny’ was levied, was headed by a conservative.  And now revelations show that computer searches listed “Israel,” “Progressive” and “Occupy” as terms which should receive extra consideration regarding tax exempt status.  These were obtained by internal IRS documents obtained by The Associated Press.

Monday’s revelations made it clear that screening for other kinds of organizations continued until earlier this month, when the agency’s new chief, Danny Werfel, says he discovered it and ordered it halted.

Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee released 15 lists of terms that the IRS agency used and has provided to congressional investigators. Some of the lists, which evolved over time, used the terms “Progressive” and “Tea Party” and others including “Medical Marijuana,” “Occupied Territory Advocacy,” “Healthcare legislation,” “Newspaper Entities” and “Paying National Debt.”

The lists were dated between August 2010 and April 2013, the month before the IRS targeting of conservative groups was revealed. They ranged from 11 pages to 17 pages but were heavily blacked out to protect sensitive taxpayer information.

I doubt that Issa and others will accept these revelations.  They want the ‘witch-hunt’ to continue.  They are looking ahead to 2014 and realize that their party has failed the American people, and has a deserved reputation for ‘doing nothing.’

Congress has a favorability rating of 10 percent.  That is the lowest rating for any entity since this rating began.  Either Congress is stupid, or is choosing to ignore the disdain of the American people.

A failed government needs to be removed.  The United States of America has the worst government in the world.  Its corruption may be hidden through deception and legal means adopted by the Senate and House, but it is the most disreputable group of elected officials in our history.

So when we hear the overused word ‘scandal,’ I say scandal, what scandal?
