Serena Williams clinched French open

Serena Williams has clinched the French Open title of this year beating Maria Sharapova on straight set 6-4, 6-4. With this long longed win, Serena claimed the title after 11 years since her win in 2002. After missing few years due to injury Serena is surfaced again on the tennis court making her rivals go weak on knees. Todays’ win against glamor queen Maria Sharapova, or ‘Masha’ is most significant one in women tennis as the lost romance comes back with Serena.

This is Serena’s 16th Grand Slam win and with this blockbuster win she came into the same line with Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. It seems, Serena upgrades herself more and more everyday; this title win is her 3rd out of four straight finals, in Wimbledon, U.S. Open and French Open ( Quarter finalist of Australian Open). It is her second ever title on clay court but she was quite confident. Through Serena was the automatic favorite on final, none imagined Masha will be torn away like this. This is Maria’s 10th straight loss to her American rival. The 31 yrs old Serena was simply the ‘thunder’ on court to clinch it cringing Sharapova. The recent no. 1 has expanded the reign on clay court too.

Serena started with strong services as she just took minutes to make it 40-0. But then Maria tried to bounce back. Once the Russian took the lead. But dominating Williams didn’t let it last longer; soon it became 2-2. Once Maria looked more aggressive and the crowd was on her side; they cheered her up keenly while Serena was being taunted by disgusting winds. Still Serena managed to make it 4-4 struggling against all inconveniences.

The American played her best tennis of the match in the next game with some big hits down both flanks and then held serve to take the first set in 51 minutes.

The task on hand for Sharapova was huge, illustrated by the fact that in Grand Slam tennis, after taking a one set to love lead 208 times, the American had failed to complete the job just five times. The Russian was seeking her 5th Grand Slam title.

Sharapova saved five break points to start the second set, but two games later she struggled again on serve and this time Williams converted her first break point to put herself in the clear at 4-2. Finally, Williams clinched the Roland Garros trophy shaking her much younger rival Sharapova. Serena looked quite popping in orange head band and shiny smile. It was sensation of joy and struggle. The Olympic gold medalist of 2012 became the oldest woman to win trophy in open era tennis, taking over Chris Evert who did it in 1986.

When Serena finally clinched the title after much sweat and struggle, it was joyous moment for her coach cum boyfriend Patrick Mouratoglou; the buzz says the big diamond ring on her ring finger is nothing but his gift. She has an infection due to the ring, still she didn’t take it off; and this says it all!! With this French Open clinch Serena Williams had proved herself again. And she reminded the very old proverb, ‘Class is permanent’.
