The BET Awards occur once a year and with each passing year, BET brings out the best in film, TV and music and 2013 is no different. From broadcasting the hit show and music countdown 106 and Park to the many stars arriving on the eve of the awards to talk with the media and to party into the night. The BET Experience is turning into a celebration that brings out all the stars.

The BET experience began on Friday (June 29) with host/rapper/actor Bow Wow bringing his hit show and music video countdown 106 & Park to Los Angeles and broadcasting live from Los Angeles. Bow Wow also brought out friend Angela Simmons who shared in the co-hosting duties and the two looked amazing together as they conducted their hosting duties. After the show the two were spotted backstage signing autographs for fans and taking photos. Also, actor/rapper Khleo Thomas who is a good friend of Bow Wow and recently interviewed for this publication stopped by to show love for his friend. Bow Wow and Khleo in the past have starred in movies and collaborated on music. Leaving fans now wondering if another Bow and Khleo collaboration could be in the works.

106 & Park was not the only stage where the stars were showing up, many stopped by to chat with local and national radio stations as media day took place. Many of the stars talking about their upcoming projects, performing at this year’s BET awards and/or presenting during the show. Stars such as new mom and R&B singer Tamar Braxton stopped by to talk with the media as did 2Chainz, Mindless Behavior, Trinidad James, former member of Destiny Child’s Michelle Williams, Jay Sean, Tamala Mann, Richard Brooks, Jeremih, and Jonelle Monae.

As the day progressed and many of the stars finished with rehearsals, some took to the court for a celebrity basketball game. Fans were able to see Young Money rapper Tyga, R&B singer Marques Houston and Chris Brown who all took the court for a celebrity basketball game. Chris Brown is scheduled to perform at this year’s awards ceremony and one can only imagine what this talented young man will do or what songs he will perform. Will he perform his single ‘They Don’t Know’ featuring Aaliyah and have a holograph of the late singer or will he perform ‘Can’t Win’ which has recently hit radio waves. One can only speculate and await til Breezy hits the stage Sunday night for the BET awards.

Also, and on a more serious note, rapper T.I. joined a panel of other celebrities to discuss the topic of guns in a discussion called ‘No Guns Allowed-Disarming Violence In Our Community.’ T.I. who has had to spend time in prison for gun possession has made a 360 in becoming a more positive influence for those who follow him. Showing off his family and good nature in his hit reality show with wife Tiny, ‘TI and Tiny:The Family Hustle.’

T.I continues to prove that if you fall, you can get back up and be a better person than who you were.

As night fell, many stars such as Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, School Boy Q, J.Cole and Miguel took to the stage at LA Live. Kendrick who is a Los Angeles native rocked the crowd as he always does and during Snoop’s set Snoop brought out hip hop legend, Dr. Dre. Dr Dre who discovered Kendrick Lamar and has the young, talented artist signed to his AfterMath label is also responsible for some of the hits behind Snoop, Eminem, 50 Cent and the late Tupac and has also worked with Jay-Z on his ‘The Black Album.’

Still, many fans wonder will Dre ever release another solo album and is ‘Detox’ just a myth or is it really an album in the works and if so when will it be released. Dr Dre has not released a full album in years but has released a few singles but the hip hop icon has been keeping busy in the studio producing some of today’s biggest hip hop stars. So, fans are still getting to hear those classic Dre beats just no Dre verses.

Fans this weekend still have the chance to see Kirk Franklin and Donnie McClurkin in BET’s Sunday’s Best happening Sunday (June 30) at Club Nokia, doors open at 11 and show begins at noon.

Then and only then does this epic weekend conclude, and with the main event, The BET Awards at 8/7c where anything can happen and anyone can show up on stage. With artists such as Chris Brown, T.I., Robin Thicke, Jonell Monae, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Ciara, Kendrick Lamar, Miguel, R.Kelly, Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, India Arie and Charlie Wilson all scheduled to hit the stage.

As Rihanna, Beyonce, Drake, 2Chainz, Chris Brown, Mindless Behavior, Mary Mary, The Throne, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, ASAP Rocky, Kanye West, Bruno Mars, Miguel, Eve, Nicki Minaj, Kerry Washington, Halle Berry, Taraji P Henson, Denzel Washington, Samuel L Jackson and more battle out for their chance to take home a BET award.

The BET Awards airs Sunday (June 29) at 8/7c and look for live pictures and updates from the red carpet right here as the arrivals arrive and hit the stage along with host comedian and actor Chris Tucker.
