Fabricio Werdun and Antonio ‘Big Nog’ Nogueira are set to square off from Manilla tonight in the signature battle of the coaches from The Ultimate Fighter. Some bad blood remains between these men, making it one of the more-anticipated fights to headline a free fight card. The two heavyweights will do battle shortly after the final event of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil welterweight tournament final is completed between William Macario and Leonardo Santos after Santiago Ponzinibbio had to bow out due to injury.
This event features a long main card that has six action packed fights on it. While not the most hyped card the UFC has put on recently, the fights should still prove entertaining throughout and will be well worth tuning in.
Rony Jason vs. Mike Wilkinson
UFC on Fuel TV 10 begins with a featherweight contest between budding star Rony Jason and Mike Wilkinson. Wilkinson is a tough fighter with a solid grappling game, however he doesn’t seem to be on the same level of Jason. Rony Jason has won back to back fights, seemingly enough to warrant a step up in competition. Apparently not, as he is fighting yet another TUF fighter who did not win the tournament while on the show.
Jason will come out foaming at the mouth for this main card event and make quick work of Wilkinson.
Prediction: Jason by TKO round one
Daniel Sarafian vs. Eddie Mendez
Middleweights square off in the next bout, and it appears to be a mismatch. Eddie Mendez is making his UFC debut, and word is that he may be a bit out of his league inside the octagon. Daniel Sarafian on the other hand probably would have won his season of The Ultimate Fighter had he not succumb to an unfortunate injury.
Although he lost his debut fight, Sarafian showed that he has world class power in the bout. His conditioning wasn’t what it needed to be in that fight, as fatigue quickly took over and he was defeated as a result. With the talent he showed early in that fight, he will make sure to be more prepared this time around so that he can earn his first UFC win.
Prediction: Sarafian by TKO round 2
Erick Silva vs. Jason High
Silva is coming into this fight off a loss to Jon Fitch, and will now face the underrated Jason High in this lightweight bout. Silva will be looking to put on an impressive performance to follow up being dominated on the ground in his last fight. This fight will not be a one sided affair, although Silva is the far more talented fighter. High is also looking for a win to boost his standings in the crowded division, so he will give everything he has to overcome the superior striking of Silva.
That being said the safe bet is the smart money in this fight, Silva will grind out a win despite High putting on a better show than many expect him to.
Prediction: Silva by unanimous decision
Thiago Silva vs. Rafael Cavalcante
The battle of failed drug tests sees two men who have seen suspensions for significant periods of time, as well as wins taken off their record. Cavalcante is coming off a 12 month suspension, and will be looking to avoid ring rust against a heavy hitter in Silva. Betting this fight to be a no contest after both fail drug tests is probably not a bad bet, as it totally could happen.
Assuming both men pass their tests however, this fight should be a brutal striking battle. Silva probably has the better chin and mentality for a fight like this. His ground and pound game is absolutely brutal when he is on his game.
Prediction: Silva by TKO in round 3
William Macario vs. Leonardo Santos
The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil finale will fittingly have Santos fill in for the injured Santiago Ponzinibbio. This season saw many an injury and Santos stands to really benefit from them should he be able to score the upset. Macario has the superior stand up game and will look to use it early and often.
Santos is a steady professional who will do his best to execute his game plan and take Macario off his game plan. If he is able to disrupt the rhythm of his opponent he stands a chance at scoring the upset.
That’s not likely to be the case, as Macario will likely hunt down his opponent and look for an early finish.
Prediction: Macario by TKO in round 2
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Fabricio Werdum
The headline fight of UFC on Fuel TV 10 sees heavyweights Fabricio Werdun take on Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in a rematch from their 2006 fight. Bad blood is abound between the two big men, and much has changed since their original battle.
Nogueira has looked like age has begun to take hold on his game in recent bouts, and as a result Werdun probably has him outmatched in just about every facet of the game on paper. Werdun also has the motivation necessary to earn the revenge he has so desired for the loss the first time around.
Look for Werdum to control this fight from the onset, never allowing Nogueira to get anything going.
The headline for UFC on Fuel TV 10 Fabricio Werdum vs. Antonio Nogueira should be as predictable as they come.
Prediction: Werdum by unanimous decision
