Police are searching a pond in Bristol, Connecticut, hometown of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. Authorities are not revealing exactly what they are hoping to find in their search, however they still have not found the weapon they believe Hernandez used to murder 27 year old Odin Lloyd last month.

The pond being searched is known as Pine Lake Park or Malones Pond according to the Hartford  Courant. Aaron Hernandez’ mother and uncle both live nearby the pond.

WFSB-TV in Bristol reported that authorities decided to search the lake after receiving an anonymous tip that the .45 caliber Glock handgun used to kill Odin Lloyd may have been tossed into the pond.

According to evidence unsealed by a judge last week, Lloyd was shot through the heart and then twice more while on the ground.

Although there is no word as to whether or not the tip was valid, the search party plans to be in the water all day Monday, and possibly Tuesday if need be.

The gun that the prosecution believe was used by Hernandez to kill Lloyd is yet to be found. He was seen on his home security system holding a gun the night of the murder, although that gun has not turned up in any of the various searches at his home.

Police would not comment on the exact nature of the investigation in the Bristol, Connecticut pond, and could in reality be searching for something completely different than the murder weapon. Gregg Miliote of the Bristol District Attorney’s Office sums up the nature of the dive team in the Bristol pond in a statement. “There is an active and ongoing investigation,’’ he said.“Our office is not going to comment on an active and ongoing investigation.’’

Massachusetts and Connecticut authorities are working in collaboration with one another in this ongoing investigation. We will update you as more information becomes available.
