A new book from former Republican Governor of Florida, turned Democrat, exposes the ‘new Republican Party.’ In 2010 he lost his Senate bid to Marco Rubio, who has become a masterful politician, without measurable substance.
Titled “The Party’s Over: How the Extreme Right Hijacked the GOP and I Became a Democrat,” the book will be published by Dutton and is set for release in the winter of 2014.
It will be “a no-holds-barred memoir of his journey from Republican to Democrat,” according to the publisher, the Tampa Bay Times reports. “He will name names and offer a frank indictment of the failings of the Republican Party.”
The Palm Beach Post says that in the book, Crist, among others, talks about Sarah Palin, Jeb Bush, and Marco Rubio. Progressive Newsday columnist Ellis Henican is assisting Crist with the book. Crist has indicated he will make another Senatorial run in 2014, as a Democratic candidate.
Crist was always considered a ‘Ronald Reagan Republican.’ In 2008 he was among those considered to be John McCain’s running mate in the presidential campaign.
“I have now seen both these parties at the highest levels from the inside,” Crist said in a statement prepared by Dutton. “In the book, I’ll share my very strong feelings about what’s happened to the Republicans, how the party I grew up in has been hijacked by extremists, losing its compassion and common sense. I’ll describe exactly what I saw and what it made me realize.”
Reacting to the book, Florida GOP Chairman Lenny Curry told the Tampa Bay Times, “We didn’t know that Charlie Crist was launching a new career as a fiction writer. But we do want to thank him for the hundreds of pages of rhetorical ammunition he will be giving to us and his primary opponents.”
Anticipating the attack on the Grand Old Party, Curry added, “It’s a sign of weakness that someone who for years described himself as a conservative is writing a book out of desperation to distance himself from his life-long positions.”
Crist says he is very comfortable being a Democrat. It’s too bad we have to wait so long to hear Charlie Crist’s expose of the ‘New Republican Party.’ (I wonder if it will be along the lines of Bob Dole’s criticism).
