While the rest of the entertainment world struggle to cope with Cory Monteith’s premature death at 31, the late actors on-screen and off-screen girlfriend Lea Michele has been hit twice as hard by the fact of his death. The Glee actor was found dead in a Vancouver, Canada motel room on July 13 after he’d missed his checkout time.
The world of Glee will be changed forever after losing such a popular cast member. Especially one who featured as a main love interest for Lea Michele’s character on the show. Fans, co-workers and the rest of Hollywood have been taking to their Twitter accounts to speak of their shock and dismay at the young actors death.
The only Glee cast member who hasn’t said anything is Lea Michele. With her double trauma of losing her real life lover and her on-screen boyfriend, she has been silent in her grief and her rep has asked that people respect her privacy and her silence while she attempts to come to terms with Cory’s death.
One thing that must be going through her mind is that depending on the Glee story line used by the show’s producers, she’ll have to face Cory’s death all over again and this time on camera. In a scenario where you have actors playing a romantic couple on and off set, the pressure will be immense for the 26 year-old actress.
Even more pressure will be heaped on Lea as the show is set to start filming its fifth season in mid-August.
The young couple “went public” with their blossoming romance on Valentine’s Day in 2012. From that moment on Monteith and Michele were always together. They travelled together and went on holiday to Cabo, Mexico and attended the Coachella Musical Festival in Palm Springs, California, as well as Hawaii.
The young couple not only had the pleasure of working together, but they spent their time away from set together as well. It is for this reason alone that Cory Monteith’s death will hit Lea Michele twice as hard. And her having to “re-live” the loss of Cory on the show will be horrible for her.
The one dark patch on their relationship was Monteith’s substance addiction problem. But Lea knew about his problems and was supportive. The two were a rock solid couple and Lea understood Cory’s need for rehab. Just after the actor had completed a 30 day rehab in April the two young lovers went on another Mexican vacation.
According to a source close to Michele, the couple were very happy together and Lea will be devastated by Cory’s death. A therapist, Dr Nancy Irwin told FOX411’S Pop Tarts column that Lea could take some comfort in the fact that “she apparently did everything in her power to support the recovery of Cory. It may be quite difficult for her to get back to work, yet the set of ‘Glee’ may be just what she needs to honor Cory’s life and death, to give it meaning.”
It is obviously a cruel blow for Cory Monteith’s family, friends and coworkers, and we think that Lea will have a hard time dealing with the loss when shooting for Glee’s next season starts.
In an earlier interview with Marie Claire magazine she told about how close she and Cory were. She said, “I don’t even remember a time when he wasn’t my boyfriend. No one knows me better than Cory. No one knows what it’s been like to go through this more than he does. Feeling like you have that net underneath you allows you to jump higher and go farther. He makes me feel like I can do anything. For the first time in my life, I feel really, really settled and happy. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”
Cory Monteith’s death will hit Lea Michele twice as hard when she has to start work in mid-August working on the television show that brought them together both onscreen and off.
