While the cast of Glee and the rest of Hollywood cope with Cory Monteith’s overdose and the show’s producers work out how to handle the real life death of Glee character Finn Hudson, Lea Michele is planning a memorial for Cory Monteith and, according to some rumours, planning to exit the show.
The 26 year-old Michelle was a permanent fixture in Cory Monteith’s life. Besides playing his “on-again/off-again” girlfriend on the television show, in real life the two were inseparable. Lea was the rock in the 31 year-old actor’s life and she supported him in his efforts to control his addictions.
But now that Cory is dead, Michele has undertaken the responsibility of putting together his memorial. Lea, despite her devastation at losing Cory, has been getting involved with making arrangements for Monteith’s final farewell. A horrible task that is all too cruel. The young couple had only been together just over a year and it looks like Michele’s support is now going towards her lovers mother.
Cory Monteith’s mother is allegedly not a part of the memorial plans and she’s too distraught at her son’s death. Lea, who helped Cory through his substance abuse problems is now helping his mother to deal with his death.
Lea herself was said to be devastated at the news of Cory’s death from a heroin/alcohol mix and although she has not spoken publicly about her grief, her rep did release a statement: “Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she’s received from family, friends and fans. Since Cory’s passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them. They are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together.”
While Lea is dealing with the idea that her support was not enough to save Cory Monteith from his overdose, she is keeping herself busy with planning the memorial. But once that is finished, she will then have to re-live her grief all over again when she starts shooting in mid-August on the next season of Glee. She may decide that it is all too much and exit the series.
It has been said by those close to Lea Michele, that she may just leave the show rather than have to face the torment of “going through the motions” on the Fox series that brought the two of them together.
But a source connected with the series spoke to HollywoodLife.com and said, “Lea is not leaving Glee. Everyone is going to take things lightly as the first few days back on set are going to be an emotional roller coaster. But producers are wrapping their heads around all aspects of how to move the show forward and will respect Lea’s wishes in their hopes to make the show as special moving forward as it was in the past. They are family and they will all get through it together. Being together on the show should actually be a godsend.”
But Lea and Cory’s characters on the show, Finn and Rachel, started their “onscreen” rocky relationship in the Glee pilot. The two characters have been a vital part of the show’s storylines and when Finn and Rachel were apart, the show still focussed on their relationship.
The fact that Cory Monteith and Lea were inseparable offscreen, will make any storylines involving the two characters sheer hell for Lea to work on. So while a source says that she will not be leaving the show, it stands to reason that Cory Monteith’s overdose combined with the toll of Lea Michele’s planned memorial for her co-actor and real life lover may still make her exit Glee.
