Extreme Weight Loss Trina (Preview)

822x (1)

Extreme Weight Loss Trina (ABC 8:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, will be about Trina Miller’s year-long journey to meet her final weight loss goal. Trina, 47,was 46 when she started out the year working with transformational coach and co-host of the show, Chris Powell. He hosts it along with his wife, Heidi.

At 5’4″ and 290 pounds, Trina is a nurse and mother of three and resides in Grosse Ile, Michigan. She is afraid that she’ll soon become one of the morbidly obese patients she cares for in her hospital. Trina often calls herself a hypocrite for insisting her patients get their weight to manageable levels, while she continues to neglect her own growing obesity.

According to Trina, “It’s like you’re a prisoner to the weight.”

Trina hits the ground running in the first month, really embracing her new lifestyle with enthusiasm. She even gets a group of six nurses from Oakwood Healthcare System, where she’s employed, together for a special workout. She wants to show them all the amazing things Chris taught her at boot camp that they can also use to help them shed pounds.

The six nurses are from Westland, Garden City, Romulus, Ypsilanti and Southgate. They were part of the initial weigh-in, a special boot camp in Arizona with Miller, and will be there to watch the final reveal in April at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn.

Like all of the participants on Extreme Weight Loss, Chris works with them to not only change their bodies by losing weight, but to change them emotionally and psychologically, so they can resolve issues from their past that have led to their weight problems and move on and grow from them instead of being influenced in negative ways by them.

“For years I buried my emotions,” she said.

Trina said her parents divorced when she was young. She began gaining weight when she was 12 because she turned to food for comfort.

According to Miller, confidence didn’t always come easy for her. Her mother questioned her chances of being chosen for the show. When Trina’s mother saw the long lines in front of Gardner-White Furniture in Canton for a casting call and asked, “Why would they pick you?”
Trina replied: “Why not me?”

Proud of Trina’s early accomplishments and the fact that she wants to help the nurses she works with to also lose weight, Chris sends a fellow fitness guru, Richard Simmons, to inspire and motivate the nurses. Unfortunately for Trina, the amazing rush of losing weight and working out with one of her fitness idols is quickly lost when she and her mother resume their co-dependent relationship. This sends her back into her bad eating habits.

Trina’s husband, Eric, contacts Chris and tells him that he needs to get out to Michigan right away to help save his wife from herself. Trina is the only one, other than Mehrbod in Phase 3 of his year-long journey of eight loss, to actually gain weight… Find out how Chris handles it, on “Extreme Weight Loss,” Tuesday, July 23, on ABC!
