“Mama” June Shannon announced today that Alana Thompson, famously dubbed Honey Boo Boo will be retiring from the pageant circuit.  Mama June states the family’s focus has shifted ever since cameras have entered their home to record ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.’

The focus on the reality shows, states Mama June will be on “school,” and “life in general.” This generalization may make some people scratch their heads or raise eye-brows. Basically, Honey Boo Boo is retiring from pageants to do what most American kids do; sleep, eat, go to school and live life.

Honey Boo Boo rose to fame due to her involvement and appearance in ‘TLC’s ‘Toddlers & Tiaras,’ which put fame and snarling mothers into the spotlight. The show always portrayed the cocky 7-year-old as unimpressed with her competitors. TLC saw the audience wanting more Honey Boo Boo and less pageant and alas a spin-off was born.

In early 2012 the family reportedly received anywhere between $5,000 to $7,000 per episode. Once the show’s ratings went through the roof, TLC gave the brash family a bump in pay. Currently, the network pays the family $30,000 to $50,000 per episode. In addition, TLC covers the costs of bodyguards and care for Honey Boo Boo’s dad, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson.

Sadly, Sugar Bear has not been ailing well in the health arena. He visited a neurologist in late spring after he suffered fainting spells. Much love has been given to Sugar Bear from the public, as the humbled father seems to love his family unconditionally, and his presence on the show is being missed.

The hardworking daddy “Bear” was accustomed to working seven days a week for ‘Snowco General Contractors” a job he enthralled in. “I work for snowco general contractors in mcintrye for almost 8 yrs I work in the chalk mines and love it,” Thompson previously stated to news outlets. There has been no updates on his condition, but Honey Boo Boo and family sent their gratitude to fans on their Facebook page:

“THANK YOU ALL FOR THE THOUGHTS, PRAYERS, CONCERNS ETC IT TRUEL MEANS ALOT ALL OF US!!! WE WILL KEEP YALL UPDATED AS POSSIBLE AS WE FIND OUT INFO BUT DONT WANT TO PUT ANY WRONG INFO OUT THERE RIGHT NOW UNTIL WE KNOW MORE/ALL THE ANSWERS THANK U ALL FOR UNDERSTANDING! LIKE I SAID HES OK UNLESS HES HAVING A SPELL/EPISODE SO ITS NOT A CONSTANT THING GOING ON SO TO SPEAK SO HES OK RIGHT NOW AND WE WILL CONT DOING WHAT WE DO UNLESS THINGS OTHERWISE CHANGE!”

The family is sure to deliver water cooler worthy episodes as Sugar Bear continues to heal on his path to recovery. The first episode of the 2nd season of ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ will arrive on July 17th at 9pm EST. The family is excited to share in the special promotion of the “Scratch ‘N Sniff” episode. TLC has announced,

“Nearly ten million Watch ‘n Sniff cards, featuring six scents, will be distributed across the country. Inserts will break exclusively in PEOPLE’s 7/15/13 issue, hitting newsstands on July 5. Inserts will also run in Us Weekly, hitting newsstands on Friday, July 12, to lead into the premiere on Wednesday, July 17 at 9 PM ET/PT. In partnership with Time Warner Cable, the Watch n’ Sniff cards will also be available at select Time Warner Cable retail stores across the country. Additional cards will be handed out by street teams in major markets.”
