Johnny Depp is reportedly worth over $350 million dollars from the path of his acting career. Now he’s contemplating leaving the same industry that has reaped him millions. Depp shared with ‘BBC’ that he’s “probably not too far away” from quitting after his last film. The ‘Lone Ranger’ bombed at the box office. Perhaps going against ‘Despicable Me 2’ was a bad idea. The kids rage toon reaped in over $293 million while the ‘Lone Ranger’ brought in around $73 million during its first several days of release.
In the interview with ‘BBC’ Depp shared
At a certain point you start thinking … when you add up the amount of dialogue you say per year, for example, and you realise that you’ve said written words more than you’ve actually had a chance to say your own words.
You start thinking about that as a kind of insane option for a human being. So are there quieter things I wouldn’t mind doing? Yeah.
I wouldn’t say I’m dropping out any second, but I would say it’s probably not too far away.
After 30 years of gracing the big-screen, the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star might be just saying good-bye. It is ironic this announcement is occurring after the flat-lined attempt of the ‘Lone Ranger’ but rumors suggest Depp had been considering this move to quit Hollywood for some time.
One wonders about the path of his decision when movies are currently in production with the famed actor headlining the flicks. He currently is in production to star in ‘Transcendence.’ The movie is slated to win some Emmy nods as it focuses on two computer scientists (Depp being one) who are looking to empower ‘Technological Singularity’ where computers outpace mankind. There are rumors surfacing Depp will play the role of ‘Charles Mortdecai’ in the movie simply titled ‘Mortdecai’ focusing on an art dealer looking for hidden Nazi gold. ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ is slated to be released in 2015 and there is speculation Depp was to star in a sequel to ‘Alice in Wonderland.’
Depp has to two children with former love Vanessa Paradis, a French actress. The actor has traveled globally with his family and at times caused controversy with his comments about the United States. The ‘2009 Sexiest Man Alive’ made his debut in the 1984 hit ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ and a few years later landed on popular television show ’21 Jump Street.’ Depp always claimed to be an eclectic, even as a child he recalls making odd noises for fun, and would turn lights off and on twice to verify if on or off. Depp has acquired an impressive list of around 36 awards, from the ‘Golden Globe Award for Best Actor,’ to the ‘Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role’ and finally to kid-impressed, ‘Teen Choice Award for Best Comedy Actor’ and numerous others.
Has Depp reached his acting capacity? While the star feels he has, it seems his casting net continues to surround him. Only time and movies will tell if Depp will really quit acting soon, especially if he suffers another box office bomb. For now, he is a doting father and remains committed to the roles he has taken on. He would be a missed Hollywood presence.
