Nicki Minaj has been talking of many things, but not ships and sealing wax, the 30 year-old singer is talking about motherhood and how men are dogs, or at least want to be treated like dogs!
She’s been hitting the interview circuit, talking to Marie Claire and Rolling Stone, to name but two periodicals. It’s probably her doing the publicity run up to her latest role in life, as an actress. She’s going to be on the “silver screen” soon in a Nick Cassavetes’ film.
The film is a comedy called The Other Woman. If the film sounds familiar, it’s because that Guardian Express favourite swimsuit model Kate Upton and the always sexy Cameron Diaz are also in the film. So it makes sense that Nicki is following the publicity trail.
Or it could be that since she is recording a new album and releasing a new clothing line for Kmart that she’s making sure that her base’s are loaded by insuring that she gets a lot of exposure.
But all this activity doesn’t mean that she’s feeling overconfident about things. In the area of the film and her acting in it, she’s got a few butterflies.
In an interview with Marie Claire, she talked about the movie and her part in it. She said, “I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. I can’t blow this.”
But in the topic of relationships and love, she is much more confident and she relayed to her Twitter fans, (that she calls Barbz) she had the following information to relay.
She is single at the moment and there is no “secret lover” stashed away somewhere. She also has dreams of being a mom one day and she figures that she has men pretty “scoped-out.”
With her “inside track” on the male of the species, she passed on some advice to her Barbz, She said, “Don’t chase any man. Put your school first.” According to Nicki, “Men love independent women. You don’t have to be a bitch, but there’s nothing wrong with it at times. And: Men are kids at heart. They want to be nourished and pet like a dog.”
Nicki may be too busy to even think of being in a relationship with a man at the minute. On top of all the other things she’s got going in her life, she’s also changing her image. She started out in the business as being an “over-the-top” pop artist who made sure she stayed in the public’s eye.
Now she says that she’s feels, “more comfortable with less.” She’s working hard to “tone down” her image and she focussing on what is important to her. She told the magazine that she learned a lot from being on American Idol and it helped her to perceive what her evolution needed to be. She explained that, “The perception people had of me completely changed because there are no cue cards, there’s no script. . . . it was ‘Let’s see your real personality.”
She also said, “My core is a genuine human being who roots for other people. I didn’t want to blow smoke up their ass. I wanted every contestant to leave with something that they could remember.”
But apart from Nicki Minaj saying that men are dogs, the other interesting thing to come out of the other magazine interview with Rolling Stone was her answer to a Barbz question of “what do you find yourself buying over and over again?” Her answer was unexpected. She said, “I buy a toothbrush every day. Is that the weirdest thing?” Only if she intends to use them to brush her “dog’s” teeth!
