Police and Fire Investigate Car into the River

Portland, ORE -This morning, Friday July 5, 2013, at 2:11 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of a car over an embankment and into the Columbia River in the 500 block of North Bridgeton Road.

Officers responded and contacted the caller at Blue Frog Landing who told police that she didn’t have a description of the car but it was totally submerged.

Officers called for the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office and Portland Fire & Rescue boats to respond to the scene. The MCSO Dive Team was activated and responded to the scene. Both MCSO and Portland Fire have been searching the river while Portland Police have been searching the riverbank.

A person was spotted in the river but then disappeared again. Officers believe the person in the water swam out of the area.

The Dive Team will be attempting to locate the car to see if anyone is inside the vehicle.
