According to Randy Travis’ publicist , the country singer is in critical condition after his surgery for the stroke he suffered after his heart failure. The life threatening condition of the 54 year-old musician follows his congestive heart failure a day earlier.
While Travis was resting and listed as stabile after his heart condition, he suddenly had a stroke and has undergone surgery to relief the pressure on his brain. It was while he was being treated for the viral congestive heart problem that his health took a downturn.
Doctors from the Baylor Hospital said on Wednesday that Travis had been in good health and that he had been touring throughout the country with his music show right up until three weeks before his initial heart problem.
It was when Travis got a viral upper respiratory infection that he then developed problems with his heart.
Kirt Webster released a statement that read, “His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support.”
On Wednesday information was released in a video by two doctors from the Baylor Heath Care System, Drs. William Gray and Michael Mack. Mack had said that before he had the stroke, Travis’ condition had “stabilised” and that he had “shown signs of improvement.” Since the earlier optimistic health status, the stroke has changed Randy Travis’ condition to critical.
When Travis was admitted to the Baylor Hospital on Sunday, he was diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy, a disease that can lead to heart failure. The viral condition had caused his heart to get bigger and weaker, affecting his hearts ability to circulate his blood properly.
The Hospital insert an IMPELLA peripheral left ventricular assist mechanism to help the ill singer’s heart to circulate properly.
According to Travis’ sister-in-law Teresa Trawick, who spoke to People.com, the country singer’s family have a history of heart ailments. She said that Travis’ mother, “passed away at an early age with her heart, so it is like these boys are following right in their footsteps.”
Another statement by Kirt Webster explained that the stroke was “a complication of his congestive heart failure” that he had been treated for at The Heart Hospital at Baylor Plano in Texas. “We will have updates as they become available. His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support,” Webster added.
The troubled country/gospel singer had just been announced to be showing signs of “improvement” when the stroke occurred. Travis had been originally hospitalised on Sunday at The Baylor Medical Center at McKinney, Texas, “with a presumptive cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure,” according to Dr. William Gray.
Travis, was then transferred to The Heart Hospital at Baylor Plano in Texas on Monday, according to Dr. Michael Mack. Dr. Mack said, “We determined together in a joint decision that a higher level of specialised care was appropriate, and therefore we transferred him to The Heart Hospital.”
This latest turn of events in the country singer’s health, has setback his initial good recovery from his heart failure and follows a year of personal problems for the award winning singer. Randy Travis’ stroke after his initial heart failure has placed him in critical condition. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr Travis and his family and friends.
