Disney has already confirmed that ‘Star Wars Episode 7’ is full steam ahead to start production in 2014. One thing not confirmed is the cast ensemble. Rumors suggest Ryan Gosling is being considered for the role of Luke Skywalker’s son. In addition, Zac Efron is being reviewed to play the son of Han Solo. These are just possibilities, as Efron was originally rumored to be tested for the part Gosling is being eyed for. Mass confusion, we get it!
Outside of the big names being considered for the cast, are the bigger names of the production and directing team! J.J. Abrams, George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy and Bryan Burk all have a hand in the lightsaber stew of the next episode. Sources close to the directing and producing tables have suggested that many unknowns will be cast in the mid-range to lower end character roles. The bigger names will hold the larger roles, a refreshing touch for Hollywood.
Previous to Gosling and Efron’s names being dropped for roles in the Star Wars trilogy, it was rumored Leonardo DiCaprio met with the filmmakers and Abrams, but later bowed out of the race. DiCaprio was not the only one rumored to have dropped from interest. Whispers began at the 2013 Comic-Con event the ‘Star Trek’ producer may not be as interested in directing as once believed.
Lucasfilm and Disney shook their heads vehemently stating that Abrams is “having a great time working on the script and is looking forward to going into production next year.” The movie is expected to hit move theaters in 2015, no specific date has been released.
Casting has remained under tight wraps and it seems even Harrison Ford is playing complete mums the word. He was questioned about reprising his Hans Solo role from ‘MTV.’ He became then joked, “are you talking to me? I am not prepared to have an in-depth conversation about Star Wars”. This of course will draw further speculation if Ford will bring original back into the new direction. The ‘Cowboys & Alien’ actor did state that J.J. Abrams is the perfect person to guide the ship of success.
‘IMDb’ does list Ford as (rumored) for slated pre-production of the Stars Wars movie. This itself can draw intense fan excitement, with just a tease that Ford may have a part of this franchise, especially as Hans Solo.
This naturally leads one to wonder about Mark Hamill, as with Ford ‘IMDb’ has listed Hamill as rumored for Luke Skywalker. Interestingly enough, the cartoon voice-over actor stated he would love to see Skywalker as a Jedi Master and usher in the new generation of Jedi Knights, adding “heavy on the Jedi mind tricks, less on the lightsaber duels.” These actors are not helping dispel the rumors the big three could be making a come back. Leading this naturally to…
Carrie Fisher, as with her other two former co-stars, is listed by ‘IMDb’ as a rumored role for Leia Solo. Fisher has made joking comments in regards to the newest installment of the long-loved epic film, “Han Solo and I have been unhappily married for many years. And so we speak through the wookiees and use a translator.” We can see that!
Fans of the series crosses a few generations and many more will be joining the anticipation ring as news continues to surface about casting calls. So far DiCaprio has said no, Gosling and Efron are being reviewed and the original stars are playing word games on their returns. This is sure to be an exciting year as production is expected to launch early next year.
