It is going to happen. Superman will have a showdown with the Dark knight in the upcoming sequel to “Man Of Steel.” Might we be able to draw conclusions from that? If it’s really a sequel to a Superman movie, does that mean that Batman won’t come out on top? Will Superman beat Batman in an epic fight, or will he? According to Zack Snyder, the “Man Of Steel” director we have to see it like this: “Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest superheroes in the world.” However Superman and Batman are both superheroes they don’t play well together. In actual fact: Christopher Nolan who directed the iconic three new batman versions with Christian Bale as the Dark Knight, has based this version of Batman on DC’s “Dark Knight” comics. In this comic Superman is a nemesis to Batman, and vice versa. In order to keep everything running smoothly and not to alienate any audience members: Snyder will direct the new Superman movie, while Christopher Nolan will serve as the executive producer.
It is a great idea from the studio to actually combine these two superheroes. In addition it’s even better for the story line that they don’t suddenly become friends and start working together. It is much more interesting to see them on opposite sides. Of course there is also a nice financial aspect attached to teaming up superheroes. For example “The Avengers” raked in $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office in 2012. Batman did very well on his own and made it to the 1 billion dollar mark with Nolan’s 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” Superman himself hasn’t always proven to be a cash cow. (For example the 2006 Superman movie did very poorly and performed below industry expectations. However Superman’s image might become more badass and less loveable if he beats Batman in an epic fight. Will he get the chance or will his high values, and morals kick in to stop him from doing real harm?)
It might be that Snyder has turned the tide already with his new darker approach to Superman. His version grossed $621 million worldwide. Cavill will also be back on board as Superman, as well as Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne will be back too. However the news we all want to know is: if the Dark Knight himself in the form of Christian Bale will return. Unfortunately so far Bale has stated that he has no desire to change his body back into the Bruce-Wayne-Lean-Bat-machine. We can only hope that he will change his mind once the movie crew starts filming.
Greg Silverman, president of creative development at Warner Bros., wanted to add that they had been thinking about the best director to bring these two superheroes together and they could not come up with any other person more suited for the job than Snyder. Greg said:”Zach Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he’s a fan first and he utterly gets this genre.” Are you excited that Superman will beat Batman in an epic fight or the other way around? Will he be able to be that aggressive? Or might Batman have the upper hand? What do you think?
