Opening this Friday in theaters is the highly anticipated sequel of ‘X-Men: The Last Stand.’ It is simply titled, ‘The Wolverine’ and Hugh Jackman is ready! His look differs in trailers, showing a face covered with a scruffy beard and sporting long hair. His rough look draws apart from the clean shaven and put together look of his previous Wolverine appearances. It seems the change to the rougher and hairier look will happen mysteriously at some point during the movie.
The movie will feature Jackman who is seen privately grieving the loss of his love Jean Grey – Famke Janssen will reportedly make some ghostly cameos throughout the film. He is approached by a lithe and beautiful new face, Yukio (Rila Fukushima) who prompts him to follow her to the bedside of a soldier he saved many years ago. Upon arrival Wolverine becomes embroiled in a deadly game of ‘catch the wolf’s healing powers.’
Unlike most franchises where the lead hero has been replaced one too many times (insert Superman), Jackman has redefined the role of Wolverine each and every time. He plays the role so well, you feel the fight through the picture.
In another bit of exciting news, Jackman is slated to return again as the rough, ready and rowdy wolf to star in the 2014 release of ‘X-men: Days of Future Past.’ Reportedly, the star will be thrust into the past to make a major change for the future, affecting man and mutant kind. The cast of characters will certainly have many wanting the date to approach quickly. The cast includes- Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin and more to be named at a later date.
The native born Australian has been married to Deborra-Lee Furness for over 17 admirable years and the happy in love couple have two children together. Jackman has been busy the past several years. Between the X-men series, ‘Les Miserables’ and he just wrapped up production on ‘Prisoners.’ The provocative crime thriller stars Jackman as a man pushed to the edge of desperation to capture the suspect behind his daughter’s appearance. He is in good company with Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis and Terrence Howard.
Early movie critics who watched ‘The Wolverine’ are stating this is by far Jackman’s best Wolverine yet. The ‘Butter’ star admitted “I had more fun than ever,” he continued, “I don’t know what it is, maybe being a little older helps playing a character who is two or three hundred years old.”
Whatever it is, it appears Jackman has reached his peak career mojo and it is winning critics over. The movie was announced during the 2013 Comic-Con event and those in attendance were enthralled to see the X-Men star show up. He was easy-going with friendly smiles. His look was far from the rough and ready fighter displayed to the audience during ‘The Wolverine’ trailer release. He shared with fans this past Saturday about his role, “To me, he’s eternally surprising, there’s a great deal about him which I personally love.” Fans agree and wait anxiously for the midnight release this Thursday to see the movie in theaters nationally.
