After UFC 162 is kicked off with Cub Swanson vs. Dennis Siver, Mark Munoz and Tim Boetsch are up next to step inside the octagon. These two middleweights will certainly not be taking part in the most anticipated fight on the card, not even the most anticipated bout in their weight division. Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman will overshadow anything that these men will be able to accomplish inside the octagon tonight.

That doesn’t mean that they aren’t fighting for anything. A win will result in a major step up in competition for whoever wins this slug fest.

Mark Munoz (12-3) vs. Tim Boetsch (16-5)

Betting line. Munoz -125, Boetsch -105

A stylistic match up that will be interesting and entertaining to watch unfold tonight makes the thought of Mark Munoz taking on Tim Boetsch a dark horse candidate for Fight of the Night honors. Both men are talented grapplers with heavy hands who will look to punish their opponent and finish the fight.

Munoz is coming off of an injury layoff, and will be looking to reestablish himself as one of the most talented up and comers in a stacked middle weight division. If he is fully healed, he has the potential to reach havoc on any middle weight who challenges him.

However Munoz has not fought in the past year, and ring rust likely will be a factor in tonight’s bout. Tim Boetsch has won twice since Munoz last stepped into the octagon.

Munoz has also struggled occasionally against wrestling in his career, something Boetsch excels in. If you don’t believe me, you can look to his losses against Chris Weidman, Yushin Okami and Matt Hamill for proof he has occasional lapses in his wrestling abilities.¬†Look for Tim Boetsch to take the fight to the ground early and often when the two square off tonight.

Although Mark Munoz has the talent to one day become the champion of the division assuming Anderson Silva gives up the belt eventually, he is not consistent enough of yet with his performances. A match up with an underrated Tim Boetsch, who has monster size for a middleweight, is a bad one for Munoz.

This one should end with a finish. There will be blood.

Prediction: Boetsch by TKO in round 2.

We know Tim Boetsch can take a beating, he will show he can also give one when he fights Mark Munoz tonight.
