Rapper 2 Chainz, aka Tauheed Epps, aka Tity Boi is not having a good year. Like the Queen of England’s annus horribilis in 1992, the rapper’s year thus far has not been a bundle of laughs. On Wednesday, the singer’s tour bus was towed to the sheriff’s office and he was arrested for obstruction and taken to jail.
Authorities in Oklahoma Wednesday night stopped the tour bus after they spotted that the tail lights weren’t working. According to TMZ, they then approached the bus with the intention of entering. Someone on the vehicle then locked the bus’s door and refused to let the law enforcement officials on. The occupants of the bus explained that they would need a search warrant before he would open the door.
Police officers apparently saw evidence of drug use and should have been allowed to board the bus under “probable cause,” But when the driver and the police officer stepped off the bus to talk about the situation, someone locked the door and during a nine hour deadlock, the police decided what they would do next. After nine hours of waiting, the police towed the bus and its remaining 10 occupants to the local sheriff’s office where they then presented a search warrant.
At that point all the bus’s passengers, which included the rapper 2 Chainz, were arrested and taken to the Oklahoma County Jail for “interfering with police process,” aka obstruction.
2 Chainz cannot be pleased to be arrested yet again, while he has only been charged with obstruction at this point, the annoyance of getting his bus towed off and his being placed in the local lockup must make him feel pretty unlucky with the law.
The 35 year-old performer has had more than his fair share of run-ins with the long arm of the law this year. In February this year, he was busted for marijuana possession in Maryland. He actually escaped prosecution on that charge as there was an issue of who the pot actually belonged to.
Then on June 11 this year, just 2 days after he had been robbed at gunpoint, the rapper was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on board a plane where he was escorted of to be arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance. TSA officials found that his previously checked luggage had marijuana and prmethazine, aka purple drank, in it. After being promptly booked and charged with felony narcotics possession, he posted his $10,000 bail and was released.
Incredibly the robbery at gunpoint that had occurred two days earlier took place outside a medicinal marijuana dispensary in San Francisco. Later that day he posted $10,000 bond and was released.
But the tour bus incident in Oklahoma came after an officer of the law had spoken to the driver and the two came off the bus. Apparently once the driver and the officer departed the tour vehicle someone locked the door and refused to re-open it. The remaining 10 people on the bus then refused to come out or open the door.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that they found narcotics inside the tour bus and that charges have been pressed against 11 people for obstruction and police have said that drug charges would follow. The bus’s occupants have all posted bail and been released from the county jail.
The bizarre event caps off a legally troubled year for the rapper 2 Chainz. While he has been initially charged with obstruction after getting towed to jail, it looks like he may face narcotic charges as well. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the year brings to the rap artist.
