The award winning actress Amber Tamblyn is set to join the cast of Two and a Half men playing the long lost gay daughter of the Charlie Sheen character. Initially the 30 year-old actress is due to be in at least five episodes.
Amber is the daughter of actor Russ Tamblyn who starred in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, West Side Story, and the cult classic television show, Twin Peaks. She got her start in the entertainment business working on the television soap opera General Hospital as Emily Bowen a role that she had for six years.
She will be playing Jenny, Charlie’s (Charlie Sheen) illegitimate daughter. Jenny has moved to L.A. to pursue acting and connect with what’s left of her family, she is apparently a “chip off the old block” and a female carbon copy of her late father. It also looks like Tamblyn will be given the chance to be regular on the show.
She is going to make her debut on the show in the September 26 premiere. She shows up and crashes with her uncle, Alan (Jon Cryer) and his housemate, Walden (Ashton Kutcher).
Tamblyn has been nominated a total of 14 times and she’s won three awards for her work. She has a background in horror films and she had a cameo in the Tarantino film Django: Unchained. She is also an author with two books of poetry to her credit.
Amber is married to actor and comedian David Cross. The couple dated for several years when they got engaged in August 2011 and married at a river clearing October 2012. Tamblyn arrived to the clearing in a canoe and walked down the “aisle” barefoot and in a marigold coloured dress.
Amber Tamblyn being cast in Two and a Half Men as the Charlie Sheen character’s gay daughter will be a change of direction for the show and a way to resurrect the ghost of Charlie Harper.
Two and a Half Men executive producer Chuck Lorre said that he liked idea of having a strong female character on the long running CBS sitcom. He said, “I think it would be great to have that voice on the show from a different perspective.” Speaking to reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour, he added, “The show has had enough testosterone to last a lifetime … Part of the fun in this has been creating a character that is equal to the task of stepping on the stage with Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher. That’s a big job.”
The announcement came after the news that Angus T. Jones will no longer be a full-time cast member in Season 11. Jones will allegedly return in a recurring guest capacity despite his “dissing” the series and referring to it as filth.
In 2011 Charlie Sheen, who’d been on the show from the very beginning, got into a very highly publicised disagreement with producer Chuck Lorre which culminated in his being fired from the show. On August 2, 2011 it was announced that the season nine premiere would begin with Sheen’s character having been killed off and his ex-girlfriends attending his funeral.
Afterward, Charlie’s Malibu home would be put up for sale and interested buyers would include celebrities from Lorre’s other sitcoms and John Stamos, as well as Ashton Kutcher, who replaced Sheen as a regular character, as Walden Schmidt. Schmidt was labelled as an Internet billionaire with a broken heart.
Now Amber Tamblyn will be in Two and a Half Men as the Charlie Sheen character’s long lost gay daughter when the new season premieres on Thursday, September 26 on CBS. If she proves to be popular enough, she’ll become a regular on the show. We cannot wait to see the show.
