David Cassidy Busted for DWI

David Cassidy Busted for DWI

David Cassidy, who played oldest son Keith Partridge in the 1970s sitcom the Partridge Family was busted for driving while intoxicated (DWI) on Wednesday morning in New York. Just three years ago, Cassidy was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).

The 63 year-old performer was pulled over just after midnight during a DWI check apparently after he had failed to dim his headlights. Schodack Police Officer Tom Jones was conducting a DWI check when he stopped Cassidy’s car.

While David Cassidy may have been busted for DWI he was still sharp witted enough to crack a joke when Officer Tom Jones introduced himself. According to District Attorney Richard McNally, after hearing the officer’s name, the performer said, “What’s up Pussycat?” a reference to the hit song by Tom Jones the singer, What’s New Pussycat?” McNally did not reveal if the officer found the remark funny or not.

David Cassidy was found to have blood alcohol content of .10. In New York the legal limit is .08. The singer was arrested for DWI and for failing to dim his headlights. Cassidy was arrested and charged with felony DWI due to his prior 2010 conviction.

He was then arraigned and placed on remand at the Renssalaer County Jail. His bail was set at $2,500 which he paid and he is scheduled to return to the Town Court on September 4.

According to the Schodack Chief of Police said through the entire incident, Cassidy cooperated fully and was, “a gentleman.”

David Cassidy actually lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida but and spends part of the summer in upstate New York. He was stopped just outside of Albany, New York and ABC Albany’s WTEN reported that he was driving a rental car and had been visiting with friends earlier.

According to TMZ who spoke recently to Shirley Jones, Cassidy’s stepmother, she told the celebrity website that the singer was, “a troubled man who has demons he’s been struggling to conquer.” Ms Jones is David’s real-life stepmother who played the matriarchal head of the musical Partridge Family television show. Jones was married to David’s late father Jack Cassidy who died in 1976, aged 49, as the result of a horrific fire in his West Hollywood apartment.

The Partridge Family star was arrested for DUI in 2010 when he failed a sobriety test in his “home state” of Florida. He registered a .14 blood alcohol content. At that time, police officers found a a bottle of bourbon under the seat of his Mercedes which had been partially consumed. At that time, Cassidy admitted to taking a Vicodin tablet earlier in the day.

As a result of his pleading guilty to the 2010 charge of DUI, his license was suspended for six months and he was given an additional year of probation.

On Wednesday August 21, David Cassidy was busted for DWI outside of Albany, New York. Despite his blood alcohol content being over the .08 limit in New York, he not only cooperated with the police and behaved as a gentleman, but he retained his sense of humour as well. What’s up pussycat?
