Florida Man Kills 3 and Wounds 2 Others in Murder/Suicide Shooting Spree
On Saturday morning, a Florida man went on a murder/suicide shooting spree, killing 2 and wounding 2 others before he turned the gun on himself and took his own life, according to the police.
Hubert Allen Jr., 72, was the lone disgruntled gunman. His shooting spree took place in North Florida. According to the sheriff’s office in Union County, north of Gainesville, Allen first shot and killed his co-worker, Rolando Gonzalez-Delgado, 28, at approximately 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
The shooting occurred on property owned by their mutual employer, Marvin Pritchett, 80.
Allen then turned his weapon on Pritchett, who was a short distance away, and shot him, taking his life. Pritchett was the uncle of Sheriff Whitehead, but whther that played a role in the shooting or not is unclear at this time.
Allen, just minutes later, shot and wounded the second co-worker, Lewis Mabrey Jr., 66, with a small-bore shotgun. Mabrey was driving a farm tractor on a county road and the two “exchanged words” right before Allen opened fire on him.
Allen shot Mabrey in the left arm and side. Mabrey had to then undergo surgery for a broken arm and other injuries, and he’s listed as being stable and in good condition following the operation. He was able to help identify Allen to the police as being the shooter.
Allen was not through with his shooting spree yet. He then went to where he used to work at the Pritchett Trucking Company in Lake Butler, Florida. There, he shot his third co-worker, David Griffis, 44, in the stomach. Griffis is listed in critical condition following emergency surgery.
According to the police, Allen then returned to his Lake Butler home where he ended his own life, fatally shooting himself.
Hugh Allen, Jr., was the step-grandfather of Buffalo Bills’ running back C.J. Spiller.
The company’s website states that Marvin H. Pritchett founded Pritchett Trucking Inc. in 1980. It also mentions that the company employs “well over 400 people and is apportioned in all 48 states and Canada.”
A possible motive that has been suggested is that it was an act of revenge, as Allen was fired recently.
However, the police have been hesitant to put forth, so far, any possible explanation or motive for why the Florida man went on the murder/suicide shooting spree where he killed 2, wounded 2, and then turned the gun on himself, becoming the third victim of his shooting spree.
