In New York and Miami Premios Tu Mundo was Number One

On Thursday, August 15, the TV awards ceremony that is a true celebration of U.S. Latino pop culture, Premios Tu Mundo (Your World Awards), aired on Telemundo. It’s an annual special, celebrating the best in telenovelas (sort of like limited-run types of soap operas or mini-series), music, fashion, movies and sports.

Premios Tu Mundo was  produced and broadcast live by Telemundo on Thursday, August 15 at 8pm/7c from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida. The awards ceremony was a musical event, and  combined the power of television, web, mobile and social media platforms to give fans the final say in what’s hot.

Almost five million votes were cast by the public during last year’s Premios Tu Mundo show.  The audience in Miami and in homes across the world were entertained and energized with performances and appearances by top Hispanic celebrities. Some of the musical artists who appeared were Tito El Bambino, David Bisbal, Roberto Tapia, La Original Banda El Limon, Jencarlos Canela, Jesse & Joy, Gocho, Los Horoscopos de Durango, Chuy Lizarraga, Lupillo Rivera and Fonseca; TV personalities Ana Maria Polo, Maria Celeste Arraras and Penelope Menchaca; and novela stars Saul Lisazo, Marlene Favela, Sonya Smith, Jorge Luis Pila and Felicia Mercado.

This year’s Premios Tu Mundo was hosted by the telenovela superstars Gaby Espino and Aaron Diaz. According to Nielsen, the awards ceremony reached a cumulative audience of 3,760,000 total viewers and 2,100,000 adults 18-49. This year, there was an average of 1,993,000 total viewers and 1,151,000 adults 18-49, an increase of +19% and +26%, respectively vs. last year. The awards show featured high-energy musical performances and appearances by some of Hispanic Hollywood’s most prominent artists.

Also, Telemundo, the leading producer of Spanish-language primetime content for audiences in the U.S. and around the world, made history by launching the most enhanced and innovative social TV experience. This social media experience included initiatives with Vine, Twitter and zeebox, which resulted in over 406,000 posts for the night.

According to Trendrr, Premios Tu Mundo ranked as the #1 property across all broadcast shows.

On a local level, Premios Tu Mundo was the #1 program, regardless of language, in New York and Miami, among adults 18-49. The awards ceremony grew double digits, +48% in Houston, +35% in Miami and +23% in Los Angeles, over last year.

The pre-show “La Alfombra de Premios Tu Mundo,” also did well. It garnished an average of 1,324,000 total viewers and 706,000 adults 18-49.

The winners of each category presented a diverse range of the very best entertainers of today. La Patrona was awarded Novela of the Year, while in the category of Favorite Protagonist – Female, the winner was Aracely Arámbula, The winner of the Best Villain – Female was Christian Bach, and the Best Supporting Actor award went to Gonzalo García Vivanco. The Perfect Couple awrda was won by Aracely Arámbula and Jorge Luis Pila, while the one for Legendary Actress went to Christian Bach.

Other winners during the Premios Tu Mundo awards show included El Rostro De La Venganza with two awards, and Pasion Prohibida and El Senor De Los Cielos were honored with one award each.

In the music categories, winners included “Dámaso” by Gerardo Ortiz for The Party Starting Song, while “Incondicional” by Prince Royce won Most Popular Song of the Year. “Invencible” by Alerta Zero received the mun2 presents Best Music Video award.

In the categories for movies, the Fandango Cine’s Latino Performance of the Year award was received by Michelle Rodríguez. Leo Messi won the Best Athlete of the Year award, and Gaby Espino earned the I’m Sexy and I Know It award.

Among the TV personalities that were honored were Maria Celeste Arraras for Best Social Fan Club and Ana Maria Polo’s “Caso Cerrado” with Best Reality Moment.

Actress, producer and activist Eva Longoria alos won a special award, as did music mogul Daddy Yankee, renowned actor Rafael Amaya, and Gaby Espino.

Daddy Yankee was presented with the “Poder Musical” (Musical Powerhouse) award. It is one which is reserved only for artists who with courage, talent and innovative power revolutionize the world of music.

Leading actor Rafael Amaya won the “El Mero Mero” (Top Notch) award, for his memorable role in “El Señor de los Cielos,” the celebrated production that broke barriers and ratings records in Spanish language television.

Based on real-time tweets by followers of @PremiosTuMundoActress Gaby Espino was honored with the “Favorito de la Noche” (Favorite of the Night) award.

Daddy Yankee and Natalia Jimenez performed an electrifying duet. Viewers also enjoyed a novela theme medley performed by Carlos Ponce and Aaron Diaz who interpreted the theme song of “Santa Diabla.” Gabriel Coronel sang a theme song of “Marido en Alquiler” and Aracely Arambula entranced the audience with the theme song of “La Patrona.”
