Jason Dennis Simione Hires Hitman to Kill His Family

When Jason Simione was arrested Monday night, they found an arsenal in his Dania Beach, Florida home.  They found dozens of high powered rifles, about a dozen handguns, more than 70,000 rounds of ammunition, and a .50 caliber sniper rifle.  There were also bomb materials.  The 39-year-old Simione was arrested for attempting to hire a hitman from El Salvador to kill his family.

A few months ago Simione posted on his Facebook page, “I have never been happier.”  Then, in July, his wife, Megumi “May” Simione, told him she wanted a divorce.

Simione wanted the man from El Salvador to kill his wife, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and his 9-month-old son, Jeff.

“The court is concerned with his alleged willingness to hire a hitman to kill everyone in his family including his own child,” said Broward Circuit Court Judge John Hurley, in setting Simione’s bail at $5 million.

Sheriff Scott Israel said “personally this is the most weapons I have seen and certainly the most ammunition. You can’t help but think we may have averted a disaster.”  The .50 caliber weapon can shoot through an engine block.

But Simione’s lawyer, Susan Brown, compared his collection of weapons to a man who owned a jewelry store having an extensive collection in his home.

Simione is the president of Bulldog Tactical Equipment LLC, based in Dania Beach.  Their advertising claims that they have the most extensive collection of tactical and assault weapons in the United States.

“It sounds all dramatic, but that’s ridiculous,’’ Brown said. “That’s like a jeweler having jewelry in the house or a lawyer having law books.’’

Brown is not his criminal defense attorney.  She represents his business interests.  His attorney for the criminal allegations is David Bogenschutz, who talked to Simione Tuesday evening.

Simione had confided in a Salvadorian employee that he wanted help finding someone from his country who would carry out the murders.  He offered him $150,000 to assist in finding a hit man.  He told the man, who did not want to be identified, that if he didn’t get custody of his son, he wanted him killed as well.  He also said that is was okay to rape his wife.

Jason Dennis Simione is under arrest for attempting to hire a hitman to commit first degree murder, killing his family.  He also faces charges for planning to detonate an explosive device.
