Katy Perry’s ex Russell Brand was hitting below the belt, literally, when he made her the target of a sex joke. Brand’s humour has always been on the risque side so it should have come as no surprise when he included a bit of “information” on his sex life with his ex Katy. He revealed that when the two had sex he would think of someone else.
On July 31, this year, he was doing a spot of “warm-up” at London’s Soho Theatre for his Messiah Complex world tour. As he was doing his practise gig, he joked about having sex with his 28 year-old ex-wife. The couple were only married for 14 months when Brand sent Perry a text asking for a divorce.
The comedian reportedly said, “When I got divorced, I considered becoming a monk. When you’re a monk, you’re not allowed to have sex with anyone. When you’re married, it’s one person. That’s one more than a monk. It’s not that different. I’d be having sex thinking, ‘Think of anyone, anyone else.'”
The comedy writer for the London Evening Standard, Bruce Dessau, verified that the comic has joked about feeling so “lost” after his split from Perry that he considered embracing monkhood.
Neither Russell Brand nor his rep could be reached for a comment on his targeting his ex Katy Perry in his sex joke.
In an interview with Esquire UK magazine, the 38 year-old funnyman talked about marriage and its difficulties. He said that he and Perry had a “lot of options.” Brand has always maintained that he was monogamous during the marriage.
Speaking to Huffington Post, Brand said, “It’s a hard-core thing, monogamy. It’s a hard-core principle. But beautiful, and to be recommended. And if you make a commitment to it, you’ve got to do it. When I was married, monogamy straight down the middle. You can’t mess around with that stuff.”
But that apparently was too hard for Brand to maintain for more than 14 months where he sent Perry a text asking for a divorce. The singer was devastated and kept silent about the issue for months. Then after her evangelical parents spoke out about the impending divorce she spoke up.
Her parents had, rather bizarrely said that Katy’s divorce was a “gift from God” sent to them to help fill up their church congregation. Perry’s mother Mary, who is 63 years-old, told the Church on the Rise congregation in Westlake, Ohio that, ‘I’m sure that Katy’s trending on the Internet was to get you here to church tonight.” She continued, “I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012.”
Katy did not appreciate this “outside” interference very much and she got onto her Twitter account and tweeted: “I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again.”
She immediately followed that tweet with: “Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, “close sources” or my family.
Presumably Katy Perry hasn’t heard about her ex Russell Brand’s “under the belt” joke about their sex life, but when she does, you can bet we’ll hear about it.
